It is with grieving hearts and loving memories that our family announces the loss of Trudie Turner on Sunday March 25, 2012. The daughter of Arthur Stalder and Irene Graham, Trudie was raised on a farm north west of Nokomis, Saskatchewan. Moving to Saskatoon in 1947 she worked at the Saskatoon Star Phoenix where she met and married Ken Turner in 1950. They then shared the next 62 years together. They moved to Edmonton in 1957, and to Calgary in 1976. In 1963, with four young children at home, Trudie attended the University of Alberta, where she earned her Teaching Certificate. She enjoyed teaching, especially finding joy in working with those who found learning a challenge. Trudie was a skilled seamstress, a talented knitter and a creative quilter. She enjoyed sharing these passions with friends and passing them on, patiently teaching her grandchildren. She volunteered with the Glenbow Museum, The Performing Arts Guild and the 1988 Calgary Olympics. Left to cherish her memory are Ken, their children Larry (Anne) of Whitehorse, YT, Richard (Marie) of Calgary, Karen (Randy) Kjenner of Fort Saskatchewan and Barb Shanahan of Calgary, 9 grandchildren Cheryl, Lisa, Miranda, Josh, Adam, Kelly, Amie, Krista and Heidi as well as 8 great grandchildren, Isaiah, Aaliyah, Grayson, Gabrielle, Turner, Caleb, Ronan and Rose. As well, there are many dear friends and relatives with whom she worked, volunteered, and shared so much. Trudie died as she lived with strength and dignity. The family invites all who knew her to celebrate her life at St Giles Presbyterian Church 1102-23 Avenue NW Calgary, Alberta on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostergardenchapel.ca
