Trudy Marie Haym

Trudy Marie Bartz was born on February 22, 1922, a younger sister Anneliese, to Lena and Oscar in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Trudy met a young soldier, Heinz Haym, at a Christmas Celebration; the two were married on February 16, 1944. One year later their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Ingrid Caroline, who was born on February 22, 1945 (her mother’s birthday). Ursula Alice was born nineteen months later on November 5, 1946.

In 1957 Heinz and Trudy immigrated for the first time to Canada, arriving in Windsor with suitcases in hand. Heinz and Trudy worked hard to begin a new life for their young family. After returning to Germany for a short while in 1961, the Hayms settled in Toronto.

For 41 years Heinz and Trudy were at home together with other believers in Christus Kirche (now Warden Full Gospel Assembly). As a couple they were very active in the church, with many people giving testimony of the kindness and generosity they experienced from Heinz and Trudy.

After the early death of their daughter Ingrid, Omi & Opi received Claudia into their home helping their son-in-law by raising and caring for their granddaughter.

Trudy was affectionately known to her family and friends as “Omi.” She had a deep faith in God and she was not shy about sharing her faith, expressing generosity and helping where she could.

After being able to live across the street from his precious great-grandchildren in Oakville, ON, Opi and Omi made the move to Calgary, AB to live with and be cared for by their daughter Ursula.

Her husband of over 59 years Heinz passed away on October 26, 2003. She continued to live with her daughter Ursula, facing many different health challenges over the years. Ursula was grateful to care for her in her home.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter Ursula Zinkowitz; by her grandchildren Claudia and Paul Mittelstaedt, Petra Zinkowitz, and Joseph Zinkowitz and his fiancé Andrea Michl; by her great-grandchildren Alexandra, Natascha and Michael Mittelstaedt; and by many friends and loved ones.
