Dear Karen,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved mother. Although I did not know your mother well I know she must have been an amazing person because she raised an amazing daughter! My condolences go out to you and your family. Hold your precious  memories of your mom close to your heart and she will be with you always.

I was blessed to have met Ute  at Bishop O’Byrne School.  She made me feel welcome. She shared her friendly and gentle nature with the students she worked with.  Please accept my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences and know I will be praying for her and for all of you. 

I met Ute about 18 years ago at Bishop O’Byrne High School. She was standing in a computer lab trying to figure out what to do with the bland space. Well it didn’t take her long to turn the room into an inviting area the students loved to frequent. She was kind, caring, enthusiastic and hard working and treated students and staff with dignity and respect. She was always eager to help or lend an ear. Her family was her greatest love and we all shared in her joy when a grandchild was born or some other happy occurrence took place. Ute became a friend. I was blessed to have had many lunches, suppers and walks with her over the years and even a zoom chat as recently as a few days before Christmas. I will miss her terribly. 
My heartfelt condolences to Ute’s family. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. 

Guenter, Christian, Karen and families,
We only just learned of the sad news of Ute's death.  We spent 12 years as next door neighbours and good friends until we moved to Ontario in 1986.  Our daughters, Sherry and Melanie, also spent many happy hours with the Kahler family.
We've stayed in touch and had lovely visits  with Ute and Guenter on every trip to Calgary. 
We're thinking of you all at this time.  Ute will be greatly missed.

Ute was a special lady with whom I had the pleasure of working along side at St. Catherines School.
She had a great love for special needs children and was loved by all. 
Her family was very important, and so loved by her.
I was deeply saddened by hearing of her death and extend my condolences to Guenter, Karen, and Christian.

I worked with Ute at Bishop O'Byrne High School. Ute was an incredible friend and colleague. She always puts others first, and treated the students and staff with respect. 
We often met up for coffees after her retirement. 
Was always great to catch up with her latest news. She will be missed.

I have had the pleasure to work with Ute at both St. Catherine and Bishop O'Byrne as well as to teach Chris and Karen at St. Catherine.
She was a very kind, caring and hard working person.  Both students and staff benefitted from working with her.  
We will miss seeing Ute's smile and having a chat when we would meet her and Guenter while shopping.

Ute and I became friends while working at Bishop O'Byrne High School.  We maintained that friendship after retirement as we enjoyed many fitness classes and lunches together.
Ute was always happy and proud to share many stories of her beloved grandchildren and family.  I will miss her very much.

Ute was a colleague and treasured friend. We worked together closely in the art studio at Bishop O’Byrne and she helped me build a program supporting students, built on strong relationships, wonderful conversations, laughter, joy and love. She celebrated everything good and was reflective and full of grace when challenges were present.  The yearly plate of homemade Christmas baking was always shared and anxiously anticipated by my family. I am thankful that we lived only a few streets apart and regularly ran into each other on neighbourhood walks where a quick hello for us was an hour catching up about life, our families,  laughing and just sharing how friends share. Dear Karen:
Your mother Ute, was an elegant lady. Her radiant smile was both infectious and contagious. Her positive demeanor made her an instant friend to whomever she met. Her talents and gifts were amazing.  I think she still holds the CSSD record for sewing the largest quilt design. This was hung as a tapestry covering the entire stage at St. Catherine School.  (My only claim to fame was darning a hole in my sock when I was 10 years old.)  All parents, staff and students, who she shared her skills with, will always remember that she did it Love.  She was a true disciple of Jesus! She will be missed by all.

I am so saddened by the loss of Ute.  I have such fond memories of the years we worked together at St. Catherine School.   My condolences to Gunter and her entire family.

I was fortunate to work at St. Catherine's School with Ute many years ago. I was only teaching there for one year. My name would not be one you or even Ute would likely have remembered... but I remember Ute clearly as a lovely, caring lady. She had a great sense of humour and lit up a staff room with a positive energy. It was obvious that she cared deeply about the children she served.  She was a stand-out! I'm sure she leaves a wonderful legacy for her family. 

I'm sure her loss will be felt keenly, but Ute was a woman who lived a life of purpose. What an inspiration!

Deepest sympathy to all of Ute’s family. I have known Ute for many years as Ute and my sister Linda were good friends and went to St. Mary’s high school together.                                                                                                                  
I also had the pleasure of working with Ute at St. Catherine’s for many years. We both lived in same community so would visit and keep in touch as she walked by on her walking adventures. 


I worked with Ute at Bishop O'Byrne and always found her to be a kind, caring, and compassionate person. She was a professional through and through and treated students and teachers with dignity and understanding. I was shocked to hear of her passing and send my heartfelt condolences to all who will be touched by her absence. 

I was blessed to have worked with Ute at Bishop O'Byrne High School.  She was one of the good ones.  She was well respected by staff and showed great patience and perseverance in her work with our students.   She had a great sense of humour and always could be relied on.  When she retired, it was a loss for all of us at our school.

May God bless Ute and be with the  family as they grieve her loss.  


I had the pleasure of knowing Ute many years ago at St Catherine’s where I attended and my Mother later ended up working.  She was an amazing human being , always showing kindness and so much grace.  My Mother and her became good friends, and stayed in touch over the years.  I am so sorry for your loss, sending love and strength your way.

My sincere condolences to Ute’s family. I was lucky to get to know her so many years ago at St. Catherine school when she worked part time. Not knowing then that I would have the pleasure and honour to work with her daughter, and get to know two of her grandchildren. Ute was always kind, and welcoming with a smile. Ute was outstanding as a teaching professional... compassionate, strong work ethic and always a great sense of humour. Ute truly cared about the kids. I always had the utmost respect for Ute. I worked with Ute at Bishop O'Byrne High School for many years.  As an educational assistant, Ute was a compassionate and skilled resource for my students and myself, in and out of the classroom. She was just so patient and encouraging - a real advocate for the students she worked with, and such solid support for us, her colleagues.  I loved chatting with her about our families, our travels, books...she was just such a calming presence in an often stressful job. I will miss her, but will treasure the lessons she taught me.
