To the Purcell family, I send my condolences. Verna and I worked together at the Grace Maternity Hospital for 34 years. We became good friends, she was a great nurse and a true friend. It is with great sadness that we received the news of your mother's passing. We had hoped to visit with her this August. Our heartfelt sympathy to you Marc, Krista and your families. My deepest condolences to Marc , Krista and your families on the loss of your mother the lovely Verna Purcell.
I can still hear her musical voice as she would greet all of us who came to her home.
Many a time she would welcome us boys home from a day of adventure on the Atlantic shore with her
infectious laugh ,a nice sandwich and a drink for us youthful explorers.
My aunt Milley worked together with Verna as nurses at the Grace for years and they became good friends, 
people could always count on some laughter and fun when those two were together.
If someone could let me know by email when the Truro service will be I'd like to attend.

Dear family:

Sharon and I were saddened to hear of Verna's death.  I had a delightfully, long chat with her in March when I called from Florida and we made plans to visit should she come to Halifax in the summer.  

Verna was my mother's [Olive MacKay Croft] first cousin and, without a doubt, she was a cherished relation of my mom's and, indeed, our entire family.  Few people could light up a room merely by entering it as could Verna.

The world has lost a wonderful ,caring person with Verna's passing. I met Verna after I started working at the Grace in Halifax. Once ,she discovered that my husband was from Willowdale , the community next to East River St.Mary's  her most frequent question to me would be " Been to East River lately ? " I can still hear  her "Yoohoo Ann ". Always smiling and cheerful, that was Verna ! Rest in Peace Verna

I was so sorry to learn of Verna's passing. I knew Verna many years ago when she worked at the Grace Maternity in Halifax, she was a wonderful nurse, caring, compassionate and a heart of gold. Krista and Mark (family's) we are sorry to hear the passing of your wonderful mom and aunt with so many memories growing up as a child..I have never seen aunt verna without a smile,a very positive and giving person,spent a lot of time at your place during our childhood days and will never forget how much fun it was..when I was sick she would come over everyday to give me a needle and I remember I used to hide in the closet, I can recall how much help she was to mom ..it was a circle of family in a little community that I wouldn't have  given up for the world..
I am sure in the days to come you will Also cherish the wonderful memories and keep them close to your heart..may god bless. Wish we were closer ..take care and if your ever down our way your always welcome.
