Vernon Clinton John Undseth passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the age of 69 years. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Sandra; children Clinton (Andrea), Michael (Charlene), Perry (Arlene) and Rebecca (Jarid Rollison) as well as grandchildren Leif, Christian, Torre, Colton, Claire and Lauren. Vernon is also survived by his sisters, Esther Hiebert, Delores Trepanier and Dianne Fraser as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ver is predeceased by his parents Sid and Margaret Undseth; brother Curtis and niece Margaret Undseth Curley. Vern was born to Sid and Margaret Undseth on May 30, 1944 in Cabri, Saskatchewan. The third child in a family of five, his early years were spent on the farm. The family moved to Battrum when his older sister started school, and then into Pennant where the children grew up. He helped his father on the farm as well as in the family business, learning a good work ethic as well as social skills. Vern met Sandra in high school, marrying in 1964. They started their family in Pennant where Vern drove truck in the oilfield, then began his electrical apprenticeship. In the summer of 1967, a trip to BC lured the young couple and their two sons, Clinton and Michael, to the Okanagan. A third son, Perry, and a daughter, Rebecca, joined the family as Vern completed his apprenticeship and learned the construction trade working in jobs throughout BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan. These were busy years with a growing family, school activities, Sunday School, Cubs, and Brownies, swimming and skating and ball and hockey. The proposed upgrader and promised jobs brought the family to Lloydminster where work, school, church, hockey, and ringette continued to keep the family busy. Vern started selling houses for Nelson homes, and enjoyed his new occupation until health problems necessitated a break in employment. In spring 1995 Vern took his Electrical Safety Codes training, and following a move to Calgary, joined Kenonic Controls in October 1995. Then and in later years Vern said it was the best job he ever had. He made friendships that continued for the rest of his life. During these years, the children now graduated and in successful careers expanded the family with the addition of three daughters-in-law and six beautiful grandchildren. Vern’s retirement brought with it the opportunity to obtain a property at Windermere and kept Vern and Sandra busy renovating a cabin. These years were filled with work and fun with many family gatherings to help with development of the cabin, boating and fishing. Health concerns dictated selling the cabin, but family activities, dinners, and trips were the focus of Vern and Sandra’s life. Vern was incredibly proud of his beautiful family and thought he had the best looking and smartest grandchildren ever. He will be missed by his family and many friends and neighbours. A Celebration of Vernon’s Life will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, 3527 Boulton Road N.W., Calgary, AB on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held in the cemetery of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fosterton, Saskatchewan on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Research (P.O.
