It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wai Doo Wong at the age of 80 years. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Woon Ngoi, loving father to daughters Brenda (Gwyn), Laura (Ray), son Foster, and proud grandfather ‘gong gong’ to Megan, Krista, Richard and Kayla. Wai Doo is also survived by his Uncle Jack (Lily) and his brother Bing (Dorothy) of Montebello, California, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Wai Doo was predeceased by his father Mon Sing in 1968, brother-in-law Wing Kong in 1988, mother Woo Shee in 2002, sister-in-law Ngan in 2013, sister Kwei Tang in 2014, brother Wai Yee in 2015, and son Don in 2016.
Born in the Village of Lung Kai Lay, Hoiping, Guangdong Province, China in 1939, he immigrated to Calgary, Alberta in 1951 at the age of 12 years. He became the third generation of Chinese who managed to make a prosperous and remarkable life in Canada. He was a devoted husband, caring and loving father and the best ‘gong gong’ ever.
A Celebration of Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Dr. John W.S. Kong officiating. Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery (Chinese section).
