With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bill Humphreys. He will be sadly missed by his wife Phyllis of 66 years, his four children; Pat (Carolyn), Carol (Mike), Susan (Doug) and Peter (Zofie) and five grandchildren; Katelyn, Leah, Kasia, Haley and Jason. He was predeceased by his older brothers James, Tom and Bob.
Born at Imperoyal, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to Claude and Elsie Humphreys, the family followed the oil industry from Nova Scotia to Winnipeg, Edmonton and finally Calgary.
Bill often talked about a summer job in the summer 1943 where he worked on the sternwheeler SS Mackenzie for the Hudsons Bay Company, sailing from Fort McMurray to Tuktoyaktuk. The next summer saw him employed as a mechanic’s helper at Fort McMurray on Lease #4 for Abasand Oils Ltd.
Bill graduated in Civil Engineering at the University of Alberta in 1953, then had a long career in the “patch” with stops at Denton-Spencer (1953-1954), Mannix Gill (1954-1957), Hudsons Bay (1957-1959), Canadian Pacific Oil & Gas "PanCanadian" (1959-1981) and CanOcean (1981-1983).
Later years he enjoyed his home and garden of 55 years in Wildwood in Calgary.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Atwal and the many doctors and nurses at the Foothills and Rockyview Hospitals who took such extraordinary care of Bill over these last few months and to Ron and Kim for their care and attention.
There will be an informal Celebration of Life for the late Bill Humphreys on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at The Lodge at Valley Ridge, 11479 Valley Ridge Drive NW, Calgary, Alberta at 2:00 p.m.to 4:00 p.m.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
