January 29, 1997 – March 06, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Yehohnathan, also known as Johnathan and John, who left us far too soon at the age of 28. Born in Lethbridge, AB, Yehohnathan was a kind and gentle soul who brought joy and love to all those who knew him. He was a devoted son, brother, boyfriend, and friend, and his memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of crossing his path.
Yehohnathan was the son of Carlos and Glenda Herrera, and the beloved brother to Yahoska (Eloy) and Carlos Jr. He adored his nephews, Kevin and Ethan, and his niece, his girly Sierra. They were the light of his life, and he took great pride in being a part of their journey. His love for them was endless, and they brought him immeasurable joy. He will always be remembered as the loving uncle who could make them laugh and smile.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Yehohnathan was always on the move. He enjoyed longboarding, hiking, riding his bike, and embracing the beauty of nature. His sense of adventure and zest for life were contagious, and he had an ability to make the simplest moments feel special. Yehohnathan’s presence lit up any room, and he had a way of making people feel welcome and loved.
At the time of his passing, Yehohnathan was deeply in love with his girlfriend, Isabella. He treasured their bond and cared for her with the same kindness and warmth he showed to all those close to him.
Yehohnathan’s passion for cooking was one of the things that defined him. He worked in many fields, including as a sous chef, cabinet maker, mechanic, and in sales, but it was in the kitchen where he truly felt at home. He poured his heart into every dish, and cooking was a way for him to express his warmth and care for others. His love of food brought people together, and he was known for sharing delicious meals with those he loved.
Yehohnathan leaves behind his parents Carlos & Glenda Herrera, his sister Yahoska and her family (husband Eloy, and nephews Kevin and Ethan, and niece Sierra), his brother Carlos Jr, his aunt Lucia (husband Gary, and cousin Sarkis), his uncle Wilber, and his beloved Uncle Marlon in Costa Rica. He is also mourned by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends across the world. Yehohnathan’s grandparents have already passed, as have three uncles and, more recently, his cousin Kevin.
Yehohnathan’s kindness and willingness to help others knew no bounds. He was the kind of person who would never hesitate to lend a hand, and his selflessness was one of his greatest qualities. He was our “gentle giant”—a man with a big heart, a sharp sense of humor, and a light-hearted approach to life. His laughter, kindness, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to help cover funeral expenses. Contributions can be made via email at [email protected] or through the GoFundMe page set up in Yehohnathan’s memory.
Yehohnathan, you will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Your memory will continue to bring joy, love, and laughter to those you left behind. You will never be forgotten, and we will carry you with us in everything we do. Our love for you will never fade.
