Barry Richard Walsh passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at the age of 73.

Barry was generous, loving, compassionate, determined, and a big softy. He loved to play golf and created his own golf tournament, known as "Barry and the Boys," which occurred annually for 20 years. Barry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Janet Walsh, daughter Olivia Burgess (Dale), son Jason Walsh (Kelly), daughter Melissa Gelsing (Mark), grandchildren Zoey, Rebecca, Logan, Brooklyn, Addison, Damon, JJ, and Justin, sisters Brenda and Heather, brothers Arnold (Carol Ann) and Glen (Barbara), and many more extended family members and friends. Barry was predeceased by his parents Ray and Jean Walsh, and his brothers Dennis and Tim Walsh. Cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will be held at Barthel Funeral Home on May 19th at 2:00 pm. A live webcast of the service will be available for friends and family to watch from the comfort of their homes. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation.

Please accept my sincere condolences. Barry was a great friend and a wonderful man. I enjoyed reading his stories, as well. We worked together at Red Car and were buddies from the time we met. I will miss him!

My uncle Barry was a kind, easy going guy who made regular visits home to Cape Breton. He really showed up for his family over the years especially in tough times. I think I speak for all of us when I say its difficult not being able to pay our respects in person. To Janet, Olivia, Jason & Melissa we send our love and we dearly wish we could give you a hug, a casserole and a cup of tea as is the Cape Breton way.

Barry was a devoted, loving husband, father and true friend who was down-to-earth, respected and funny. Rest in peace, Barry, you did a good job, we will miss you.

Gerry and I had the privilege of sharing many wonderful times with Barry and Janet over the past fifty years. From sharing the cottage in PEI , trips to Myrtle Beach for shopping and golf, Barry and the Boys, hockey and softball in our youth, and more recently the cottage and golf at The Briars , all precious memories now. Barry’s gentle humour and quick wit will be missed. Love to Janet and family, Bruce and Gerry.

I remember playing 54 holes at Shelbourne GC on his 50 th birthday. All in one day.
I remember our many golf trips to Myrtle Beach.
I remember Barry breaking his treasured 8-iron. The head went further than the ball.
I remember gentlemanly church hockey and fastball.
All good memories.
God be with you now and always
