Grant Alexander Brodie

January 4, 1979October 9, 2020

It is with unbearable sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Grant.

Beloved Son of James and Catherine Brodie, Brother of Dana Brodie and brother-in-law of Larry O'Brien, Nephew of Margaret McColl and Janet Brodie, adoring Uncle to Kyle and Brandon O'Brien and also many cousins in Vancouver and Scotland.

Grant was truly one of a kind. A pure soul and a huge heart, he loved nothing more than to make people laugh and bring happiness.

Grant's favourites moments were spent with family. He absolutely doted on his nephews and loved watching scary movies, shopping for shoes, going out to eat, and just being with them.

Grant and his sister Dana were inseparable, having the best time just being together and talking and laughing until tears came for hours on end.

Grant enjoyed watching or "debating" baseball with his dad, and absolutely loved tennis.

He also had an especially close relationship to his Auntie Margaret aka Auntie Boo.

Grant had an extraordinary bond with his Mum, whom he lovingly called Mama, and they would do anything for each other. They loved Halloween and Christmas, and would spend hours decorating every inch of home and yard.

Grant loved all varieties of music and movies and could have told you who won best director at the 1941 Academy Awards, or what song was number 1 on September 30, 1985. Between the knowledge and humor, we often said he should have had a blog.

Grant was intelligent, funny, unfailingly kind, and giving. Even to hold out a hand to a complete stranger.

Grant along with his sister, belong to an incredible circle of friends. He called them "Grant's Girls"... Shelly, Emilie, Maggie, Pam, Denise, Paula, Sarah, Christa, Christina, Jodi, Michelle, Sabrina, Natalie, Tina and Jean. He loved nothing more than a night of dancing, talking and always always laughter. He was proud to be a part of them, and oh they love him so.

Even though we are devastated at our loss, and cannot imagine a world without Grant in it, we take comfort that he is now with his Gran McColl whom we are sure was waiting with open arms, and we are so very thankful and grateful for the wonderful, loving years we were allowed to have him with us.

The family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of love we have received in the form of hundreds of messages, texts, phone calls, cards, flowers, and food. And we thank you for being part of beloved Grant's life.

Cremation and private family service will take place as per Grant's wishes. A Celebration of Grants Life will follow at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Barthel Funeral Home.

To the most beautiful, sweet and loving soul, Grant.
Your incredibly quick wit and unparalleled sense of humour was what first drew me to you when we first met. Our many talks about the latest fashion trends, our favourite designers and the best new beauty products on the market I will always treasure. I’ll forever miss your loving and affectionate comments on my Facebook posts about Ellie...they always made my day. I already miss your hilarious and quirky life update posts. I always looked forward to hearing your hysterical comic rendition of your latest work out experience gone awry or the pair of shoes you “Just HAD to have because they were LITERALLY calling your name.” I loved hearing you talk about all of the sweet and funny little adventures with your mom most of all. I feel very lucky to have known you my friend. Until we meet again ....xxoo
