

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce that Joan Marie Garant passed away unexpectedly on January 6, 2026 at the age of 90. She was born on June 29, 1935 in Kitchener, Ontario. She was predeceased by her parents Ethel and Jerome Daub.
Joan grew up in Preston, Ontario eventually moved to Galt after marriage and remained there until she passed.
Joan was the beloved wife of Valere Garant (deceased). Dear mother of Bonnie Frizzell and Rick Garant (Maria). Loved Grandmother of Tammy, Melody (Brian), Tina, Rick Jr, and Jenny.
Great Grandmother of Ethan Frizzell (Sarah), Noah Bildstien, Gabriella Pershad, Meghan McDaniel, Savannah Pershad, Abigail Garant, Alyxianna Lem, Charlotte & Madeline Garant, Chelsea McDaniel, and Kataleyah Lem.
Joan was the last living member of her immediate family having lost all 6 of her siblings; Ken (Ruth), Leonard (Eleanor), Twin brother Gerald (Bernice), Gladys (Fred), Fred (Connie), and Helen (Earl).
Joan was an avid ice skater and loved spending most of her time in her earlier years at The Forum Roller Rink in Cambridge. As she aged you could find Joan at the Bingo Hall or Casinos.
She worked at Buffalo Sled and Barrday early on until she switched career paths and became a full time nanny for decades to 3 different families.
Joan spent a lot of her life enjoying nature at her trailer situated at Hillside Lake Park then Pine Valley Park.
After her retirement Joan would fill her days completing numerous puzzles, watching game shows, baking desserts, and organizing social events for her friends at Mill Creek Terrace Seniors Building where she lived for several decades.
Joan was a straight shooter, to the point, no sugar-coating kind of woman who had no problem expressing her opinions.
Joan taught her family the significance and value of money, working hard, and the importance of staying in school and pursuing education.
The family will miss Joan's electric energy, witty sense of humour and her nervous amplified reactions to surprises.
The family would like to thank the ER Charge Nurse Kass, RACE Team, ICU RN Kathy, and Dr. Morgan from Cambridge Memorial Hospital, for their expertise and compassionate care.
As per Joan’s wishes there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at St. Mary’s of the Visitation at 16 Cooper St., Cambridge, ON. On Saturday January 10, 2026 at 11am followed by reception at the church.
Due to the weather the interment will be held at a later date in the spring.
