I miss you Grandpa so much, I look to the skys for comfort & guidance when I'm having one of those moments of wishing you & grandma where here just to smile & hold my hand. Our lives just have not been the same since you both have left us. I hope you are watching over us & can hear all our talks we have with you. Stan, I wantrd to tell the people what yoy were as a brother.  I was working on the Dew Line in Northern Michigan. I get back to my hotel after dark and there was Stan sleeping in my bed. He must have spent about 10 days with me and every working day on the job with me. Stan went back to Canada and I finished my job in Michigan early.  My Co. scheduled me for a job in Southern Alabama and set up a pre construction meeting that I could not possibly meet without driving around the clock.  I crossed the border in Detroit to visit the Family and Stan volunteered to drive with me to Alabama.  With his help I made it into the room of military officers with 5 minutes to spare. I am very sorry to hear that Mr. Struthers has passed away but so grateful that he is at peace now. The last time I saw Stan Struther's was before the summer had started. I enjoyed visiting and hearing his stories from the past. He would talk about his many fond and beautiful memories that he had with his family on his farm. He would also share verses from the Bible with me and I cannot thank him enough for that.

I am happy that I met Stan Struthers a few years back and that he did share wonderful stories with me. He will be missed!

Capturing one memory of Grandpa is so hard; I have so many memories spending summers at the farm, cutting the grass up and down the laneway (3 lengths on each side), walking in pig stalls squishing our feet in the manure, watching MASH episodes on TV, learning how to drive in the Eagle.

Promptly at noon having  CKCO TV on for the agricultural report,  getting the 7 UP & Pepsi from the spring at the trout pond, feeding a baby lamb from a beer bottle, picking stones in the fields with my cousins and mastering the exact width to cut the spanish onion for our cheddar cheese and onion sandwiches.

One of the dearest memories I have and also a life lesson – “is how to open a fudgesicle correctly.”  

Grandpa, Thank you for leaving me with fond memories and wonderful stories that I will continue to share with my family and friends.

My Grandma Pearson said to me before she died, "do not cry for me but smile & be strong.  Remember the good times. the laughter, the fun"  I hope I can do this today as I share my time with you about dad.  For the past couple years I have really leaned alot about dad as a child up till war time. Every third Saturday of the each month, the Struthers siblings gathered together, rain or shine even in the cold blizzard weather winter to  celebrate the birthdays and anniversaires of the month.  I have been privileged to join this breakfast party along with childhold friends of the Struthers family.  Each month some one brings in old family pictures to share & tell stories about.  They sure lived a busy life.  I will try to tell the story through the heart of a a daughter of Stanley Hamilton Struthers.  He was born Aug 25th, 1923 and died Sept 20th, 2011. He was raised on Fountain Street in Preston, ON.  The house still stands today. Many fond memories of family dinners, fishing in the river just behind the house.  Dad would hook potatoes on our line so we could catch carp in the Speed River and then put the carp in the flower beds to grow better flowers.  Every spring the river would flood the bands right up to the back door.  
Dad along with 3 other brothers enlisted in the war along with childhood friend Ron Matthews.  Dad married Elizabeth Elaine Pearson on June 12th, 1945 after he came back from the war minus one arm.  This did not stop the two of them from buying a 50 acre farm just off hgihway # 8 between Galt & Sheffield.  Sheffield is also the orginial home of Dad's Granme & Grandpa Strthers.  The graves can still be seen on the top of the hill under the tree.  Dad & Mom raised five children on the farm.  Struggling to make ends meet, Dad worked at Butler Metals in Preston until taken early retirement in the 70's.  Mom held several jobs over the years along with running the farm and selling eggs at the local market.  Dad would come home everyday for lunch.  Even on his short timetable he would take time to drop us off at Soper park for the afternoon or lots of times would take me to Grandpa Pearson's shoe store.  His favorite lunch was Mac & Cheese.  not this Kraft dinner stuff.  
In order to make ends meet mom and dad took in borders to help with the cost of running a farm and feeding the family.  
Dad would help on the farm, ploughing the fields which I could not plough a straight furrow like him.  I even put the manure spreader through the barn door once.  His handcap did not stop him.  When we were small Dad leased a trout pond where we all learned to swim in these waters jumping off the diving boad into the moss fed pond.  He would host War Amp picnics there along with family gatherings.  
As we married off- I being the first leaving dad with grandchildren, great children and great great grandchildren.  
I wouldn't have changed being raised on a farm.  We always had a job to do, helping with baling hay, picking stones, gathering eggs, halping with the lambs in spring, cleaning pig pens, plowing fields.  
Dad & Mom made sure we visited all are Grandparents and family relatives, Xmas dinners and reunions.
Our doors were always open and strangers were always welcome to a meal and spend the night.  Dad loved to pick up strangers. He always had a smile,  Life was not a burden to him but a day at a time, and live the day to the fullest.  I could go on & on but leave you all with a smile like dad would expect of me.

Dear family, wish I could be there with you to pay respects to Grandpa.  He found such joy in being surrounded by his grandchildren at the farm, taking us to the trout pond, and having us up to the cottage.  The lessons he taught me will stay with me always, especially how to tie tomato plants;)  I will cherish the memories of all the weekends I got to spend with him at the farm growing up.  He and I would make the most delicious ice cream sundaes.  Rest in peace Grandpa.  Take care family,

You loved me unconditionally & for that I will always be grateful,I will hold you in my heart forever. I seen you resting there tonight,peacefully with no sign of pain, I so wanted to embrace you one last time & hold your hand as you so often did for me,but then I remembered your kind words you once told me & that is "there are no good byes,just silent moments of knowing we will see each other soon, for good byes are forever& we are just merely leaving this place to see our beloved ones that have taken the journey ahead of us,it is their turn to be reunited with the ones they left." You may have left us in body & soul,but your spirit will live in us forever, I along with many will miss you deeply,you were a kind,caring & gentle man. You spoke the truth when many wished not to hear it, you guided us with wisdom,even when some may not of been aware of it at the time you spoke it. You have seen the world in many different ways that no one will ever endure or maybe even understand. You touched all of our lives & all in different forms, as a son,brother,husband,father,uncle,grandfather,great grandfather, great great grandfather & as a friend. You will always be the soldier that stood tall & proud,strong& forgiving,you are the man that many looked up to & will for years to come, so with tears in my eyes and weakness in my voice,I want to say Thank you for just simply being you, Thank you for watching over all of us from this day forward

what grandpa use to always tell us when we were younger "never suck your thumb cause then it will lead to hungerand you will chew your arm off n then he would laugh" one thing that always put a smile on my face i love yu soo much great grandpa struthers.

Grandpa i know this is a little late to say but im sorry that i was not around all the time,i wish i could go back and be there for you everyday and be able to hear you say those words to me and hug me and hold my hand one more time. All i can say is R.I.P grandpa struthers cause there is no good byes theres only see you soon i cant wait to see you open those gates of heaven for me i love n miss you and dont forget to tell great grandma i love and miss her too even tho she hasn't met me but tell her how well you helped mom raise me and thank you for givein me the streath i have today and grandpa i wish i said this the last time i saw you but now you can hear me on here you mean the world to me and your so special to me and you were very smart too those are the very last words you said to me and i will never forget that grandpa, so ill see you one day when you reach down from heaven and embrace me with your wings,guiding me up to the place you now call home.

i dnt know how to say goodbye,

I am so sad that you had to leave us Grandpa. I love you so much.  I will always remember the twinkle in your eyes when you smiled.  You were the kindest and gentlest spirit that I have ever known. Dear Struthers Family.
I deeply regret the loss of your father who was like a second father to me.  I remember that summer of 68 when I worked on your farm and you took me in like a family member.  Because Stan and my Dad Roy were both war amps, they remained close friends until the death of my Father September 22, 1992.
Stan was a very strong person and he endured a lot in his great life, and I know his memory will not fade, just the pain of his passing. All my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
