Throughout his life, Mike lived all across Canada yet home was always Harbour Grace, Newfoundland. It was there where he enjoyed seven of his final months with his beloved wife Barbara, in their new ocean-front house that they had long dreamed of building. While he established a very successful business career, he also travelled thousands of miles on his Honda Gold Wing motorcycles, loved playing golf (especially with his best buddy Doug, his father-in-law), and found great pleasure in building miniature railway trains, which he conducted with his grandson Brennan. His granddaughters Lyla and Alexandra also stole his heart from their very first days. Mike’s pride and joy were his two children, Michael and Jennifer, whom he cherished.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who supported Mike over the years, especially the caring staff at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, who made him comfortable in his final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either Oakville Trafalgar or Toronto General Hospitals.
To celebrate his life, the family is hosting an open house on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 1:00 - 5:00 pm, at their home in Mississauga, for family and friends to share their memories, pay their respects, or say goodbye. (COVID protocols will be in place.)
In Mike’s memory, a scholarship will be established with the University Health Network for the pursuit of research in the area of vascular health at Toronto General Hospital. Mike was always inspired by the words in the song “I hope you dance” by Lee Ann Womack. In particular, “I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean, Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens, Promise me that you will give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance.”
He will never be forgotten.
