David Alan Lefurgey, aged 67, passed away on September 4, 2020, at his home after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsey (PSP). David was born and lived in Campbellton, New Brunswick, where he was a life member of the Masonic Lodge and proud Junior Speed Demon.
Dave was a passionate railroader and worked as a locomotive engineer for 35 years, where he met so many lifelong friends. An avid fisherman, he loved fly-fishing and spending as much time as possible on the Restigouche River. Some of his best days were out on the water, relaxing at the trailer with his family, or around a fire with friends. When he wasn’t on the Restigouche, he could be found at the camp in Kedgwick River. It was a place of peace and grounding for him, where he could be with the guys. His best friend, Allan Alexander, graciously took him until his final days.
In recent years, he also made many fond memories with new and old friends in Mesa, Arizona. He spent his days there sitting in the sunshine, listening to Bob Glidden’s live jam sessions, playing pool and bocci ball, and being surrounded by friends.
Dave will always be remembered for his kind-hearted nature and gentle way of being in the world. He was a real salt of the earth guy, known for his easy-going personality, a memory that could not be stumped, and the ways he unfailingly showed up for his family and all those around him—including those he mentored. Even as his health declined, he remained so thoughtful, joyful to be around, and had such a positive outlook on life. He gracefully accepted things as they came, facing life’s challenges with wisdom and composure. If you asked how he was doing, he always replied, “the very best.” His spirit will live on in us, through our acts of kindness, and with his many, many friends.
To our best friend, dad, and companion in life—we say goodbye to you, with heavy hearts and far too soon. Knowing and loving you has been our greatest honour and we will miss you every single day. We love you buckets.
He was the son of the late Beatrice and Wilson Lefurgey. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Bill Walsh, mother-in-law Audrey Walsh, nephew and godson Bradley Falle, and great-niece Audrey Hope Hunter. He is survived by and will be dearly missed by his wife Kathy Walsh-Lefurgey and daughters Aysleigh Lefurgey (Mike Miller) and Mayme Lefurgey (Rob Burroughs). He is also survived by his sisters Judy Lefurgey, Vivian Lefurgey (Jim Vieau), and Sue Falle (Wade), as well as his nieces and nephews, Lisa (Paul), Alan, Nick, and Tyson (Courtney). He is also loved by his entire Walsh family: Bonnie, Scott (Stacy McRae), John (Sue Marcantonio), and Shannon (Peter), William, and Andrea.
A graveside service will be held the Campbellton Rural Cemetery located at 106 Duncan St, Campbellton on Friday, September 11, 2020, at 2:00 pm. Family members and close friends are invited to attend a celebration of Dave’s life. For those who cannot attend, a virtual option is available through the family.
