Eva lived all of her life in Tide Head, NB until 2019 when she moved to a small, beautiful assisted living home in Kingswood, Hammonds Plains where she could be near her daughter and grandchildren to receive the additional care that she needed.
Eva was a lifelong member of Saint Andrew’s United Church in Tide Head where she was a Sunday School teacher and treasurer. She very much enjoyed being a UCW member and was also on the Board of Stewards.
At home, Eva was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Every summer she and Allie would have their grandchildren visit with them for three weeks and every Christmas they would, in turn, make the trip to Bedford for three weeks. They also thought nothing of driving to Bedford for a little visit throughout the year fitting into the organized chaos of kids, activities and pets.
Eva loved to shop and was tireless in her searches. Her love of shopping and her knack for budgeting ensured we never lacked for anything. She could never leave a freezer nor fridge unfilled and ignored protests that the grocery store was just down the hill.
Eva was always interested in following politics and in opportunities to advance education.
She loved her home in Tide Head and especially enjoyed the sunroom and a cup of tea.
We will be forever grateful to those few very special people who helped Eva live independently in her home in Tide Head during her last 4 years there.
Thank you, too, to the staff at the Kingswood Residence who cared so well for Eva during the isolating times of the COVID pandemic. They also provided such comfort to her family during Eva’s last days. Eva was able to remain at Kingswood where she died peacefully in the early morning with her daughter at her side.
Eva is survived by her daughter Elaine, grandchildren, Casey Alaina and Patrick, her brother Harold (Jean) Casey and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Elsie (MacDougall) Casey, brother, Allan (Winnie) Casey and husband, Alan MacKenzie.
A funeral service will be held at the United Church in Tide Head on Monday October 3rd, 2022 at 10:30 am.
Any donations to Saint Andrew’s United Church, Tide Head or The Lown Cardiovascular Research Foundation would be appreciated.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted in the care of Maher’s Funeral Home, Campbellton.
