OBITUARY

Harry Mahoney

April 15, 1928October 3, 2019

It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Harry Gerard Mahoney at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on October 3, 2019 at the age of 91.

Born on April 15, 1928 he was the son of the late Mabel Boudreau and John Mahoney.

In his early career, Harry was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy where he served as a parachute technician and also worked for the CNR. He then went on to work at T.R. Mackenzie for 46 years in home building and construction supplies.

Harry was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; family, friends, a good book, camping, time on the Restigouche River at the family cottage as well as seasonal maritime road trips with his brother and sister-in-law, Earle and Myrtle and his forever love and wife Viola.

He enjoyed carpentry as a profession and hobby, passing that love and talent on to his son Greg.

To all who knew Harry, it was his character and easy going manner that captivated your attention as well as your admiration.

Harry was the husband of 67 years to his beloved wife Viola (Flanagan); father to Deborah (Bernard) Spear and Gregory (Nancy) Mahoney; brother to Patrick (Carmelle) Mahoney; grandfather to Amanda (Ian) Paterson, Zachary Spear, Starr Payne Wadsworth (Dean) and Vincent Payne (Lina); great-grandfather to Logan Geraghty, Katelyn MacNeish Payne, Peyton Payne, Piper Payne and Gavin Paterson. Predeceased by his parents Mabel and John, siblings Geraldine, Reginald, Katherine and son-in-law Bernard spear.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to homecare workers Danielle, Richard and Ann for their loving care as time took hold of his health; as well as staff too numerous to mention at the Veterans Ward of the Campbellton Regional Hospital.

A Graveside Service will be held at the St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Campbellton, on Tuesday October 15th at 11:00 am.

Legion members of Campbellton branch # 19 and all members of the Royal Canadian Legion are asked to meet at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery at 11:00 am for Legion Service.

In Harry’s memory, donations may be made to the Veteran’s Ward to both honor him and all those who in time might require this exceptional care.

You are no longer with us in person. Forever with us in your love, faith, trust and guidance.

So sad to hear of uncle Harry’s passing. Some of my greatest memories as a child was going to New Brunswick for summer vacation and seeing Uncle Harry and Aunt Vi. Walking into the hardware store and seeing the big smile on his face and the time we spent in the backyard at his home watching the trains go by. I will miss you and I’m sure my mother (your sister Catherine) welcomed you with open arms at the gates of heaven so I can picture the 2 of you smiling together. God bless, I love you

Very sad loss of a exceptional person. Friendly, kind and considerate with all. He always had time for me when I worked summers with him at TR Mackenzies. I always knew he was watching out for me. Certainly no favouritism but he had my best interest in mind. It was always a joy to visit with uncle Harry and Aunt Vi when Janis and we were home visiting. RIP Uncle Harry!!!

I was blessed to be born with 5 aunts that became 2nd mothers to me and these women were all smart enough to marry good men. Harry was not only a good man he was a great uncle. I will feel his warm smile, humour, and love in my heart till the day I too pass.
