Born on September 14, 1927 in Campbellton, N.B., he was the son of William Harry and Evelyn (Ward) Forster and the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Jim was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Rae, his parents Harry and Evelyn, his sisters Irene (Ditty) Dow, Verna (Verny) Thorne, Dorothy and brothers Hugh (Bud) William (Bill) and Vernon (Skip).
Jim is survived by his two sons Allan (Sheila Walter) and Dale (Joye). Proud grandfather of Nancy (Lyle), Tracy (Brenda Barona), Shawn (Tara) and Matthew (Kathryn Malcom), along with his beautiful great-grandchildren Destiny and Payton Isaac and Gabriella and Allyson Forster. Also survived by his two sisters-in-law Jean Wood and Dorayne Forster as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by daughter-in-law Suzanne Aubin.
Jim worked for CN Rail for 42 years in Campbellton and Moncton and made many friends and shared many stories from travelling the rails.
Jim was a member of the Legion #19 Campbellton, the Shriners and the Masonic Lodge. He was also a life member of Pope Logan Lake where he spent many weekends with his family.
Grampy Jim was very proud of his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren and was always keeping up to date on their various activities.
Jim enjoyed retirement, all 31 years, and up until the last few years kept active by swimming and walking at the Campbellton Civic Center during the week. He enjoyed many hours at Mike Mortlock’s mechanic shop keeping up to date on the latest news in town and around the world. He was a devoted fan of the Campbellton Tigers and until his failing health missed very few home games with his friends. During retirement Jim could be seen daily gliding on his veranda acknowledging the walkers and keeping an eye on the traffic.
Jim called the Soldiers Memorial Villa home during the last 4 years where he was treated with respect and received exceptional care and assistance. His neighbour Marelda (Billie) Gray was a very special friend who helped out in many ways.
The family extends its sincere thank you to the staff at the Campbellton Regional Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of Jim.
Funeral service will be held at Maher’s Funeral Chapel, 64 Lansdowne St., Campbellton, Thursday at 2:00 pm with visitations starting from 1:00 pm until time of service at the Chapel.
A Masonic Service will take place on Thursday at 12:45 pm.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
