With heavy hearts, we share the sudden passing of Leslie Ann Mitchell-Condo on January 8, 2015 at the age of 45. Born to Belinda Mitchell and Raymond Metallic in the USA on May 14, 1969, Leslie was baptized at St. Bernard Church in Rockville, Connecticut by godparents Marlene and Simon Dedam. Leslie was raised with so much love at her grand-parents’ home in Listuguj. Together with her husband Tim, she raised her boys Nolan and Nathan with the same love in the family home.
Full of passion and character, Leslie had many circles of friends and acquaintances. Caring and compassionate, Leslie donated her time and money generously to many causes. She spent countless hours on her computer putting photo collages together to commemorate those who had passed. She enjoyed scanning and sharing old pictures and of course, there were Leslie’s movies. Outspoken and opinionated, if there was something to be said, both in person and online, you could be sure Leslie would share her thoughts and then some. Facebook will never be the same without Leslie’s honesty, humour and quick wit.
After earning her college degree from the NBCC in Campbellton, Leslie devoted her career to serving the Mi’gmaq public service in Listuguj. Her contributions to the Listuguj Commercial Fisheries, the Gespe’gewaq Mi’gmaq Resource Council and the Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Secretariat will live on through the successes of her community. Self-taught in computers, Leslie was our go-to person to solve all the technology issues in the neighborhood.
So proud of her husband’s and uncles’ work as Ironworkers, Leslie was instrumental in coordinating a commemoration honoring the generations of Mi’gmaq ironworkers. Like her Nanny, Leslie loved animals; her recent companions, Pedro & Sassy Girl, always brought a smile to her face. Leslie had many outlets to express her creativity; most recently she shared her talents at wreath making. Many homes in our community welcome you with one of her beautiful wreaths hanging on the door.
Through her health challenges, Leslie fought back strong and courageous with Tim holding her hand all the way. She overcame her illness, bouncing back vibrant as ever, happy to be able to climb Sugarloaf Mountain every week.
Pre-deceased by her Nanny and Papa, Leslie is survived by her parents, her husband, her boys and two brothers, Jamie & Jeremy, and five sisters, Donna, Jessica, Reagan, Nyanza and Suprayah.
Funeral mass will be held at St. Anne’s Church in Listuguj, January 16, 2015 on Friday at 2:00 pm. Pallbearers include Ashley Mitchell, Nicholas Metallic, Stephen Mitchell, Dana Caplin, Derek Caplin and Mike Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers include Lance Mitchell, Will Condo, Tyrone Metallic, Nolan Condo, Nathan Condo, Jamie Gibson and Jeremy Gibson. Interment to follow in the spring.
