Born and raised in Campbellton, Rita married her high school sweetheart Leo and became an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. As a homemaker, she was well known for her cooking and baking. Rita loved life and her desserts...in moderation of course to “maintain her figure”! Active and always sharply dressed, Rita enjoyed, among many things, travel - local and abroad - curling, shopping, cross country skiing and canoeing on the Restigouche. Rita and Leo spent many happy years in their home on King Street in Campbellton and later in their cottage/home in Tide Head on the bank of the Restigouche River. When Leo passed away in 2006, Rita remained on her own in Tide Head until moving to the Village in 2016.
Rita is survived by her children Carole Murtagh (Tom) in Windsor, ON, and Jacques (Linda) LeBlanc in Orleans, ON, her grandchildren Tommy (Catherine) Murtagh in Windsor, ON and Matthew (Alyssa) LeBlanc in Wainwright, AB, and twin great grandchildren Quinn and Leo LeBlanc. She was predeceased by her 6 siblings and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
At Rita’s request a funeral service will not be held. The family would like to thank the Campbellton Village Nursing Home and all its staff for their wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Campbellton Village Nursing Home, the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to the charity of your choice.
