Syliss was born on May 5, 1979, in Campbellton, NB, to Ralph Swasson (Listuguj, QC) and Judy Collins (Broadlands, QC).
Syliss took immense pride in his hard work, a quality he demonstrated over 14 years spent on the waters as a dedicated fisherman. Ever eager to learn and grow, his most recent aspiration—a path we sadly will never see him walk—was to begin working with wind turbines this coming October.
Raised in a family of woodsmen—his father, uncles, and cousins—Syliss embraced that way of life from the young age of 14. He found joy and a deep sense of peace working in the forestry industry, where he felt truly at home.
A man of sharp intellect and quiet wisdom, Syliss kept his mind active by reading the Globe and Mail cover to cover and listening to CBC radio—or, just as often, preferring the gentle comfort of silence. His natural charisma never needed effort; friends found him as easily as he found peace.
Syliss is survived by his longtime companion, Shanitra Caplin, and his beloved children Ryan, Oasoweg, Gabby, Syliss Thunder, Gowie and Joey Caplin. He is lovingly remembered by his aunt Debbie Swasson, his sister Sara, and his nephew Caleb and niece Lilly Piper. He is also survived by his uncle Floyd Swasson (Listuguj, QC), aunt Dawn Slater (Brantford, ON), and many cousins near and far. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him, remembered for his strength, kindness, and unwavering spirit.
