Passed away peacefully surrounded by love on January 10, 2019 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital at the age of 87. William Derl Thompson was the youngest son of the late Chesley and Ina (Gracie) Thompson.
Bill worked hard all his life and was well known in the community as a man who would always lend a helping hand. He was famous for his cowboy hats, his sense of humour, and little wink for all the ladies.
He will be greatly missed by his partner Sharon Gilker and his children: Randy (Annette), Muriel, Eleanor, Chesley, and Terry (Kathleen). “Pop Pop” was a hero and role model to his grandchildren: Billy, Tanya-Rae (Brett), Fraser (Emily), Trisha (Dave), Adam (Krystal), Danny (Kathy), and Jason (Vikkie). He enjoyed his great-grandchildren: Madison, Max, Lux, William, Cael, Landen, Gideon, and Meara. He is also survived by his brother Tom Thompson, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be sadly missed by his fur babies, George and Lighting. He was married for 43 years to the late Shirley Dewar. Bill grew up in a loving family and was predeceased by three brothers: Arden (Amy), Ralph (Phyllis), Percy (Helen), and a sister-in-law Marilyn. He was adored and cherished and also predeceased by his sisters: Mildred (Edward “Chummie”), Georgie (Carl), Joyce (George), Susan (Fred) and Betty (Dave).
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, January 16, from 2 PM – 4 PM and 7 PM – 9 PM at Maher’s Funeral Home, 33 Lansdowne St. Campbellton.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 17 at Maher’s Funeral Chapel, 64 Lansdowne St., Campbellton at 2 pm, located across the street from Maher’s Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glen Levit United Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
