Alvin Wallace Crum, a nearly lifelong resident of North Texas, was born in Fort Worth, Texas on December 13, 1943. God called Wallace to his heavenly home on February 15, 2024 in Sparks, Nevada with both his daughters by his side.
Wallace was preceded in death by his parents (Hester & Alvin Crum), wife (Karen Sue Crum), wife (Sharon Glorioso Scoggins), step-son (Philip Gregg Royer), and grandchildren (Chistopher Johnston and Jerod & Jacob Martin).
Wallace is survived by his daughters, Renee Martin (Jeff) and Shelley Abernathy; his step-children Wyman Royer (Jana) and Fawn Johnston; grandchildren Derek Sapp (James), Hunter Martin, Michael Martin, Wesley Westbrook (Victoria), Justin Westbrook (Madelane), Haley Loker (Elijah), Mary Howard (Ben), Matt Royer, Jason Royer (Emma), and Bryttani Watson (Matt), eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Throughout his life, Wallace cherished family above all else. It was a large, extended family, and he spread his love, time, and good cheer with all of them. He especially loved all his grandchildren. He made a habit of spending a lot of time with them in their early years, providing love, education, and assurances about them and their parents. Many of the grandchildren continue to draw on the lessons and love they experienced with him. He and his wife Karen would load up three or four of them at a time, embarking on adventures big and small, from wildlife parks and McDonald’s, to swimming, and other places where they could expend energy and have fun. Later in life there wasn’t much Wallace loved more than gathering as many family members as could be assembled, and enjoying some excellent Mexican cuisine, with extra hot sauce for Wallace!
His generosity of time and thoughtfulness extended beyond as well. All who married into the family found a great in-law whose support, respect, and wisdom were invaluable. Throughout his life, those who came into contact with Wallace came away with admiration for a genuinely good man.
Wallace was employed with Sanofi Pharmaceuticals for 31 years before retiring in 1999. He possessed an unparalleled work ethic, dedicating the necessary hours to his profession while always finding time for his family. Wallace had excellent work-life balance before anyone even knew what work-life balance was. During his long and successful career, he received numerous awards and honors for his leadership and contributions.
Wallace will always be remembered for his “sticky-notes” and abbreviated code language that only he understood. None could have asked for a better father/grandpa. He will be missed and fondly remembered everyday, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who love him.
A Memorial Service to honor Wallace will be held at Metrocrest Funeral Home & Hilltop Memorial Park 1810 N Perry Road, Carrollton, Texas 75006 on May 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
