On Sunday, October 7, 2018, Anita Lindsey of Fort Worth, TX, departed this earth and saw Jesus face to face after a sudden and short battle with metastatic lung cancer. She was only 73 years of age.
Born in WWII Czechoslovakia in 1945 as Anita Mischka, her family escaped to Austria, without her enlisted father, just prior to the fall of the Soviet Iron Curtain. They were later deported via train to Germany where their new home would become the small town of Oberndorf. After her father was declared killed in action, her mother, Magdalene (“Omie Lene”) married Ludwig “Opa” Kistner, who adopted Anita, and gave her a brother, Alois. Anita lived a simple life in Oberndorf. After graduating high school, she worked at a family-owned hotel/restaurant where she met Merle “Buddy” Lindsey, a U.S. Army soldier stationed in Germany. They were married in 1965 and moved to Ft. Hood, Texas in 1966. They began a family in 1969 with the birth of their daughter, Petra. After learning English, Anita was very proud to become a U.S. Citizen in 1971. She loved her country and enjoyed exercising her right to vote. After divorcing in 1978, Anita devoted her life to raising their daughter. They lived in Pineville, Louisiana for about 15 years, then relocated to the Dallas area in 1995. Anita had an almost 20-year career and retired with JC Penney as a retail manager at their flagship store in the Parks Mall, Arlington, TX. She lived in Arlington, then Fort Worth, and also attended Pantigo Bible Church. Most significantly, Anita trusted the Christ as her Savior in 1979. She also led Petra to the Lord and raised her in His ways. Anita was a kind person and known by her family and friends as a quiet yet feisty personality. Anita became a prayer warrior over time, praying for family, friends, co-workers, our nation, and the nation of Israel on a daily basis. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially during Christmas. They say that “Omie (as the grandchildren affectionately call her) gives the best presents!” Anita was also a mentor, personally and professionally, at work, as evidenced by many kind retirement cards that were found. Anita is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Petra Hotchkiss, married to Greg Hotchkiss of Lewisville, TX, and their three children, Joshua, Jonathan and Lena; her brother in Germany, Alois, his wife, Gertrude, and Anita’s nephew, Thomas and his daughter Leonie, also in Germany. Anita continued to love her Lindsey family here in Texas, which includes her former mother-in-law, Doris Lindsey, and her children (like siblings) Bonnie, Jerry, Lana, Nelda and Doris’ brother, Jim Shipman. A private graveside service is being held at Hilltop Memorial Park and Cemetery in Carrollton, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Anita can be made to Daystar Israel (http://www.daystar.com/israel/pledge/) or Carrollton Younglife (https://carrollton.younglife.org/).
