
Carroll Randall Coleman, 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 11, 2014 at Richardson, Texas. He was born July 12, 1921 in Winslow, Indiana to Cecil and Opal (Skinner) Coleman. He was the oldest of 3 children. Carroll graduated from Purdue University in 1942 with a degree in Agriculture. Carroll served our country from 1943 – 1946 in WWII as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. He was assigned to the India-Burma-China Theater as a pilot and flew supplies over “The Hump” in a C-46. He left the service, honorably discharged, in 1946 at the rank of First Lieutenant. He received two Bronze Stars and the Victory Air Medal for his heroic service. He served in the Air Force Reserves until 1951. Carroll married Helen Elizabeth Merritt of Plano, TX. They had one son, Mark Lee Coleman, in 1957 and spent their lives in University Park, Texas. His wife Helen, a music teacher, died in July 1988 of cancer. Carroll and Helen were members of First United Methodist Church, Dallas, TX where they were active in the church and their Sunday school class. Carroll remarried in 1992 to Emmalee Edwards of Dallas, TX. Together they lived in Richardson, TX and enjoyed traveling, gardening, family, and grandchildren. Carroll joyfully accepted his new role as grandfather with natural grace and humor. Emmalee preceded him in death in 2008. Carroll will be greatly missed and remembered as a strong, giving Christian Father, Husband, and Grandfather. Carroll was a real American Hero and exemplified a life of love, success, and laughter. Carroll, thank you for everything you did for us. You lived a life full of love and giving and you made it look easy. You are a shining example for how all of us can live our lives. Loving survivors are son Mark Lee Coleman of Dallas; Step-children Bob Edwards, Jr. of Tracy, CA; Suzanne Webb of Conway, AR; Dennis Edwards and Rick Edwards both of Dallas, TX. Grandchildren Lauren, Russ, Shields, Kendra, Keith, Caitlyn, Garrett, Walker, Taylor, Emmalee, and Allison.
