Cesta Ayers died on Sunday April 15, 2018. He was born in Hearne, Texas on March 21, 1943 to Cesta Willard Ayers Sr and Laverne Juanita Hendrix. He was the older of two children. He grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Jack Yates High School before joining the Army. In November of 1970 he married Mozell Louise Thomas. During his 13 years in the army he reached the rank of Captain. He served in the Vietnam war and earned numerous medals including a bronze star and a purple heart. He was injured in combat when he stepped on a landmine causing him to have his right leg amputated. He did not let that slow him down. He continued to serve in the army until he retired and was honorably discharged.
He went on to graduate from Trinity University in San Antonio Texas with a degree in broadcast journalism. He was a lifetime member of the Epsilom Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He founded Cesmo’s army, a mentor program for young adults. He enjoyed a career as a DJ and worked at Kape radio, am 1480 in San Antonio Texas. He began working at The U.S. Postal Service in 1986. He started in the mailroom and through the years he worked his way up to the executive level. He held various titles such as Manager, Public Relations and Manager Corporate Relations. He received numerous awards from Postmasters. He worked for The Postal Service for 30 years until he retired. He is survived by his wife Mozell Louise Thomas Ayers, his children including Reginald Bernard Ayers, Celesta Renee Ayers Warrick, Thomas Austin Christopher Ayers, Antao Tywii Ayers Allen, 6 grand children and 1 great grandchild.
