

He was born in Dallas, Texas on April 21, 1968, and he started walking on the golden streets of Heaven on March 28, 2019.
Douglas was an avid fisherman and he took his secret fishing spots to the grave. He was a loving and caring father and husband. He enjoyed coaching sports, specially his kid’s teams, including baseball, soccer, basketball and football. He was a coach for The North Texas Little League, Carrollton Youth Football Association, The Colony Youth Baseball Association, Farmers Branch Baseball Association, and also for many years he enjoyed to participate and coach at The First Baptist Church sports ministries, and he would be coaching basketball, soccer and baseball. He also participated in playing for the teams at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton, making teams with some of the North Texas Little League coaches and friends.
He battled cancer for over two years, he had the support not only from his wife and kids, Douglas and Daniel, but all his friends and coworkers. Even when he was going through a painful illness, he would always have a very positive attitude, he would still smile and make jokes and most importantly he was on the baseball field coaching his kids and having fun and he enjoyed every single day.
He loved fishing, hunting and all outdoors activities, every day, any weather was a good day to go fishing. He was a funny guy, he would make jokes all the time, sometimes in the most inappropriate times. He served in the US Navy Reserves as a Seabee.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Gates, his children Douglas and Daniel, his cat Tux (el gato), who kept him company while recovering from his treatments. All his dear friends that showed him love and support during this long and painful battle with cancer, Matt and Heather Pyland, Joe and Jan Marquez, Sandy and Randy Bottomley, Vic Diaz, Scott Pendley, Jason Harwell, Poline and Savin Pach, Troy Tarin, Dottie Gates, Sara Gates, Tommy Gates, Krystal Coffman, his mother and siblings.
