Irene Valassi Hartman, 85, of Frisco, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025.
Born in Dayton, Ohio on July 6, 1939, to Kyriakos and Xanthula Valassi. Irene was the first-born daughter, and has one sister Dorothy, who is six years younger. Every summer through her grammar school years she attended Greek school at the local Greek orthodox church. While she wasn’t thrilled about going to school in the summer, it became one of her fondest childhood memories. She graduated from Fairview High School in 1957. Shortly after high school, Irene was married to Gerald (Jerry) Hartman on June 30, 1957; they were married for 58 years. They lived in Kettering, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton for 16 years where they raised two daughters, Cindy and Cheryl. They were active members of Southern Hills United Methodist Church. In 1973, they moved to Plano, TX where Irene eventually got her real estate license, a career well-suited for her out-going personality.
Later, Irene worked as a special education paraprofessional for the Plano Independent School District for more than 20 years. She loved her time there and thoroughly enjoyed working with her students. Irene’s hobbies included cooking, camping, crocheting, and travelling. After retirement, Jerry and Irene took trips to Europe, Hawaii, an Alaskan cruise and many cross-country excursions for family visits and reunions. Their favorite place in the whole world was the Grand Canyon where they made frequent visits. After Jerry’s passing Irene became actively involved with Genesis Metro Church and cherished many new relationships. She was a door greeter and never missed an opportunity to give someone a hug. In 2019, at the church’s annual women’s retreat she was baptized at the age of 80.
Irene is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Hartman; parents, Kyriakos and Xanthula Valassi.
Irene is survived by daughter, Cindy Quinn; son-in-law Tim; granddaughter, Megan Razryvina and her husband Vlad; great grandson Alek; daughter, Cheryl Sizer; son-in-law Phill; grandson, Sam Sizer; sister Dorothy Youngerman; brother-in-law Bob Youngerman; niece, Kristina Youngerman Sheffer and husband Mike; nephew, Greg Youngerman and wife, Jiao; great-niece, Alyssa.
