He was born on October 16, 1946, in Pampa, Texas, to his parents, Bennet Brown and Leola Griffin Brown.
Jimmy attended both Carver and Pampa High School, where he was an outstanding athlete and excelled in football.
Jimmy was the father of one daughter and one son with Patricia Lois Wright. He married Rhonda Grays on April 7, 1970, and together they became the proud parents of two daughters and one son.
Jimmy served as a Plant Operator for many years at Celanese Corporation during the 1970s until he took early retirement in the late 1980s. He took pride in his role by adhering to safety guidelines, managing potential chemical hazards, and maintaining production logs.
Jimmy was an avid golfer with a deep passion for the game. Every opportunity he had, he spent time on golf courses locally in Pampa as well as throughout the DFW area. He had extensive knowledge of the game and often claimed he was a professional golfer who would one day face Tiger Woods on the course. During his early retirement, Jimmy worked for many years at Lou’s Golf Shop in Carrollton, Texas, where he customized new and used golf clubs for hundreds of customers. You could always find him in the back of the store working on club after club.
Jimmy studied religious beliefs, practices, and scripture to better understand diverse faiths. He was curious and open-minded about how others chose to worship the one true living God. He often shared the history of religion with anyone who engaged with him on the topic. He frequently quoted 1 Corinthians 13:4–7:
“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Bennet Brown and Leola Griffin Brown; his ex-wife, Rhonda Brown; his sisters, Wanda Pearl Brown and Brenda Kay Price; and his daughter, Janell Brown.
His memory will forever be cherished by his ex-wife, Shih Fang Brown of Carrollton; his daughters, Melissa Jackson of Arlington, TX, and Carla Chiemeka of Denton, TX; his sons, Kerry Brown and wife Amber Brown of Amarillo, TX, and Francis Brown and wife Jackie Gomez-Brown of Corinth, TX; his half-sisters, Michelle Rascon and Lawana Brown of Houston, TX; his grandchildren, Carlton Jackson, Ryan Williams, Udoka Chiemeka, Ayanna Garza, Ayzaiah Brown, Kaylea Brown, Sophie Brown, Amarie Brown, Sydney Lea, and Selest Calloway; six great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Jocelyn, Xander, Micah, Carlton Jr., Ashton, and Hailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will cherish every memory of him.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to Golden Acres in Dallas. The staff took excellent care of Dad for nearly four years. His best friend and golf buddy, Dr. Ira Mims, DDS, was a rock for Dad and the family during his battle with dementia. Thank you for loving him.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 9, at Metrocrest Funeral Home in Carrollton, TX, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A committal service will follow on Friday, April 10, at noon at Hilltop Memorial Park in Carrollton, TX.
