Merrick passed into the fullness of life. Bud was born September 28th, 1952 and lived every bit
of his 68 years to the fullest, spending his final years living in Dallas, TX. Preceding him in
death are his brother Charles “Mooser” Merrick, father Kenneth Hardy, stepfather Bob Garrett,
and beloved mother Irene Garrett.
The life of Bud Merrick cannot be captured in words. Anyone who met him knows the
inspiration of his smile, the untamable joviality of his laugh, the quickness of his wit… The
life he gave us is a radiation of pure joy.
Much of his early life was spent in the rodeo with his brother. He was drafted into the
army in 1972 until his honorable discharge in 1975, and later moved to Austin, TX where he
worked for Muse Air and subsequently Southwest Airlines. He spent 33 years with his SWA
family and one could hardly call what he did work.
He is survived by the love of his life Patricia “Patty” Merrick, the son of whom he was
incredibly proud Patrick Merrick, his sister Donna Burkart, sister-in-law Sharon Merrick,
stepbrother Mark Garrett, mother-in-law Carol Taylor, adoptive father Joe Dick Merrick and the
truly countless people whom his joy touched. If you would like to join in celebrating the life of
Bud there will be two services held:
1. In Carrollton, TX on the 18th of September at 11am at Redeemer Evangelical Covenant
Church.
2. In Midland, TX on the 21st of September at 3pm at Stonegate Fellowship.
