Lindsey Michelle Sims was born in Wylie, Texas, and left her earthly life at her home in Denton, Texas, on April 23, 2018. Michelle is survived by her father Fred Sims and step-mother Janece Sims, mother Shari Sims and step-father Alan Frol, brother Taylor Sims, sister Sarah Sims, grandfather Philip Farley, aunt Kathy Leach, cousin Matthew Leach, and Matthew’s children, Kaliska and Lillian Leach, who adored their “Aunt Chelli.” She is preceded in death by her grandparents Fred and Anna Sims, grandmother Jean Farley, and uncle Patrick Farley.
After graduating from the Richardson High School Visual Arts Magnet Program, Michelle went on to double-major in Visual Arts and Social Work at the University of North Texas. Always an advocate for the underdog and a friend to all, Michelle never tired of fighting for justice for those whom she felt were treated unfairly, whether on campus, in the workplace, or in the world at large .
Michelle’s first job out of college was as an artist at Billings Productions, maker of life-size robotic dinosaurs. She spent seven years there sculpting and painting, as well as installing and maintaining exhibits around the world. In that position, she also found a niche in painting intricate dinosaur eyeballs for the dinosaurs. Still loving art but also longing to apply her social work skills, she went on to be a free-lance artist while working as a “coach” at Brain Balance Achievement Centers in Frisco, helping children with learning and behavioral issues and finding creative ways to engage them. They responded to her in ways that made her feel that she had found her calling.
Michelle will be remembered as a loyal friend, an amazing sister, and a precious daughter. Her smile lit up the room, and her genuinely inviting presence, compassion, and fun-loving nature naturally drew friends and strangers alike to feel included and listened to. No matter what she was going through, she always wanted to know how you were doing. She loved creating art, listening to live music, spending time outside, just hanging out with friends and family, and her miniature poodle, Mabel . She shared a special relationship with Taylor and Sarah, they loved just being together, and they always showed up for each other in times of need.
Michelle will be missed greatly by family, friends, Brain Balance students, and her adored Mabel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Denton County Friends of the Family (4845 S. I-35 E, Corinth, TX 76210).
