Mary Jane Solomon, "Jane" to her loved ones, was born September 4, 1939 and passed on May 16, 2023 of complications related to Multiple Sclerosis. Her parents, Harry J. and Manon (Diedrick) Solomon, and her siblings, Janet (Solomon) Gurley and George William "Bill" Solomon--all--preceded her in death. Jane is survived by her beloved nieces -- Greta (Gurley) Wardell and Kelly (Solomon) Balentine -- and her nephews, West Gurley and Mike Solomon -- and their respective families.
Jane grew up in Dallas, graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Finance from North Texas State College in 1961.
Jane has been more-than-inspirational to everyone who ever met her, particularly in light of her always cheerful refusal to allow Multiple Sclerosis to eclipse her love for life and the people in it. She lived with MS for 64 years. Folks in Dallas were made aware of her by Steve Blow's column for the Dallas Morning News about her in the 1990s.
Jane will be sorely missed.
In remembrance of Jane's life, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Texas Winds Musical Outreach. Texas Winds engages, comforts, and celebrates the spirits of isolated seniors, hospital patients, veterans, and children in North Texas through live, professional musical performances. Jane was a beloved audience member for many years. In 2016, the Board of Directors named the Jane Solomon Concerts for Seniors in her honor. The link for memorial contributions can be found below.
A Memorial Service for Jane will be held Friday, June 23rd, 2023, 11am at NorthPark Presbyterian, 9555 N Central Expy, Dallas, TX 75231.
