Ondina Margarita Martin (Martinez) born on March 13, 1931 in Camaguey, Cuba, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2021 in Dallas, Texas surrounded by her children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jorge Martin.
“BiIa”, as she was affectionately known by all she inspired, immigrated to the USA from Cuba in 1971 where they established their family in Farmers Branch, TX after short stints in Miami, Florida and Portchester, New York. She was a mother to six and an inspiration to countless others. Her dry, unabashed sense of humor was one of her trademarks. Shame was not in her vocabulary. Her kindness, strength, charisma, resilience and love of the simple in life lives on in all that survive her. Bila was the glue to a large family that appreciated every last ounce of what she effortlessly kept together, no matter the spectrum of personality or distance that separated it. She worked as a lunchlady for several years and had a few stints elsewhere. However, her main employ was being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother enviable in her trade by the likes of Mary Poppins.
Bila is survived by her children – Daughters Lourdes, Marta, Omara and Ondina and Sons Jorge and Julio; Grandchildren – Daisy, Frankie, Madai, Gabi, Juancho, Diana, Omar, Emily, Mary, Adrian, Alex, Chelsea and Caroline; Great Grandchildren – Lauren, Dylan, Kathryn, Julian, Roman, Mikey, Sabrina, Aaron, Natalia, Laney, Justin, Tania, Hailey, Ashley and Lucas.
We Love You, Bila – Your legend will live on forever within all of us
