With extreme sadness, we announce the passing of Richard René Pena, 62, of Lewisville, Texas. Richard passed away peacefully, with his wife and children by his side on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, after a long struggle with COVID.
Richard was born on February 20, 1960, in McAllen, Texas. Once he and his family moved to Houston, TX, he graduated from Sharpstown High School in 1978. His first job was selling homes. Since then, making people's dreams come true of owning a home became his passion, and he quickly rose through the ranks as a top salesman.
His greatest passion was his children; he considered his family to be of the greatest value to his life. At home, he was a great advocate for his family, always encouraging his children to make smart decisions and teaching them, through his example, to persevere. He loved his children with his entire being, and he lived his life for them, even to his last day. To the world, Richard was a charming and easygoing man, making friends at every turn with his infectious smile and goofy sense of humor.
In his career, Richard was a hard worker and a resilient figure in adversity, providing support to those who needed him. He was an energetic man with many passions. When not on the golf course, one might find Richard bowling with a league on Thursday nights, at the gun range practicing his bullseye shots or tinkering away in his garage building handguns. In his downtime, Richard took pride in creating signature margaritas and excellent brisket for his family and friends. When he wasn't watching YouTube or football, he enjoyed kicking back at the pool he built, jamming to 2000's hits on Pandora (i.e., "How to Save a Life" by The Fray, 2005) until midnight.
Even in illness, Richard maintained a positive and determined attitude because he wanted to come home to his family. His love for them was his motivation, and as someone who consistently rose to a challenge with confidence, his fight with COVID was no exception. In his final days, Richard approached death with dignity, strength, and fierce love that we will never forget.
Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Reyna Pena. He is survived by his father, Rafael Pena; his wife Veronica Pena, and children, Jonah (Katelyn), Paulina, Danielle, Christina, and Nathaniel; his sisters, Gloria Pickett, and family, Christopher, Ashley (Ross) Lange, Braxton and Ava; Sylvia (Jeff) Steiner, and family Rachel, Amanda and David; his brothers, Ron (Diane) Pena, and family, Callie (Matt) Schultz, Kristen (Kyle) Bohac and Courtney, and her son Emerson; and Ralph Pena; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends whose lives Richard touched during his lifetime.
We are proud and grateful to have called Richard a son, brother, husband, father, and friend. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, love for life, and the fiery spirit that burns in us all.
A Rosary will begin at St. Catherine of Siena, 1705 E Peters Colony Rd, Carrollton, TX 75007, April 22, 2022, at 3:30 p.m., followed by a Mass service at 4:00 p.m. The burial will be held at a later date for family only.
