Robert Linn (Bob) Crockett, age 85, died peacefully on July 26, 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Bob was born in Dallas, Texas on April 22, 1931 to Vera and R. Linn Crockett. He attended Adamson High School and graduated from SMU in 1951 with a degree in journalism. He received commendations in the U.S. Army Signal Corps while stationed at Camp Roberts, CA. Bob was well known in the Dallas advertising scene, operating his own agency, AdMark Associates, for more than 40 years. He was elected director of the Dallas Advertising League and was active on its speaker’s bureau. Bob was a devoted listener to opera and classical recitals and attributed his love of great music to a wonderful teacher named Frances Par. Bob was also active in his church. He was chosen to teach young adults at Tyler Street United Methodist Church for nine consecutive years and was a frequent Sunday school teacher at Spring Valley United Methodist Church where he and his wife, Barbara, were founding members of The Seekers Class. Bob also had a passion for the great outdoors. He was a former chairman of the Sierra Club (Dallas Region) and published numerous articles on the environment. Over the years, he and Barbara made backpacking trips to Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico--and visited Big Bend National Park 30 times in the course of their 64 years of marriage. Bob was the author of a series of recollections of life in Dallas during the 1940's, including The Bishop Arts District: A Brief History; and "Remembering Kidd Springs", an essay written for the history journal, Legacies. In addition to his beloved wife, Barbara, he is survived by son Bob and his wife, Abbie; son John; and four grandchildren. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at C.C. Young Senior Living Center in Dallas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Spring Valley United Methodist Church, 7700 Spring Valley Rd., Dallas, TX 75254.
