I worked with Bob on dcc kitchen, his handiwork was amazing, he also made bible come alive, he was a great Christian man

For Norma, Sara, and Robert - Good memories of your husband and dad.  He died on our anniversary 3 years ago. Today is our 57th. Hard to believe how fast it goes. ... Robert Lewis Brockus (Bob) and I were best buds for many years. We worked together doing cabinetmaking for 7 years.  We did many other kinds of building, too. We ate together, worked together, taught at the same place (Dallas Christian College), and enjoyed a lasting friendship.  One day soon we will renew that friendship. I taught at Dallas Christian College for several years with Brockus and loved his humor and great teaching.  Brockus was always helpful, a great listener and was a genius when working with wood.  I was fortunate to spend many days at his home working with wood.

Bob was known for his excellence as a bible scholar and teacher. 
Also his excellent wood working skills are well documented.
But some may not know that he was full of humor. I spent many hours with Bob when the time was filled with jokes and laughter.

In 1981 my wife and I moved to DCC to become dorm parents in the boys' dormitory.  Immediately,  I noticed there was some renovation going on. In the gymnasium there was a temporary wood work shop setup. On the floor were stacks of precut, various lengths of boards. These  boards would soon become Captain style beds in the twenty-some rooms of the boys' dorm.
This project was designed and supervised by an excellent woodworking craftsman, Bob Brockus!
This year's incoming group of boys' dorm residents were in for a blessed  surprise.

The following summer, Bob, the Berriers and the Russells flew to Mexico.  At a Mexico City Children's Home, our crew  produced 25 brand new chest of drawers for their rooms.  All of this was designed and led by Bob.
The children , their leaders, and we workers were filled with joy!

Bob and I worked together for many years. I actually learned cabinet-making from him (the same work Jesus learned from his earthly father). Bob was a master at it.  We had offices across the hall from each other at Dallas Christian College. Those were some of my happiest years. We shared at times with Bruce Smith and Ron Russell and others. We learned together and grew together in God's word. We had lots of fun together and with others. I remember once we found a partial 6-pack of beer in the ceiling of the men's dorm and put it in the professors' refrigerator. We had some laughs out of that. We also saw a tornado go south and west of the school--and we ran to the big building when we heard the pounding of hail from that cloud. Large hail "planks" about the size of a softball on one end fell, about seven inches long, breaking car windows and denting cars in the lot. It was a scary time. We froze one of the planks, so we could show people how big they were. Lots of other memories with Bob. We will miss him, but we will see him again at the Throne of God. 

Bob was my best friend for about 15-20 years when he was prof at Dallas Christian College. We had offices next to each other, and I was blessed to work with him 7 years in summers as a cabinetmaker. He was a master at it--the best I ever saw.  I helped him put a round bar up in the Dallas Merchandise Mart. We built most of the cabinets on campus and captain's beds for the men's dorm at the school. We put in walls, and took out walls. We had great times together.  I'll never forget his sense of humor. It's a great loss for his family, and it's a great loss for me.  I look forward to seeing him again in the resurrection of the righteous.  Thank you, Jesus.      -mb

Bob and Norma have been such wonderful, good-hearted neighbors--for many years to my sister, Lana, and her husband, Steve, and now to me. Our hearts go out to the family at this time, and especially to Norma, whom we love so much.

Bob was the first pastor at Bedford Christian Church on Central Drive.  He was  part of a strong foundation for that group which is now Compass Christian in Colleyville.
        Craig and I moved to Texas in 1969 for full time pastoral work and so appreciated Bob and Norma.  I remember times in their home with conversations often centering around Bob’s curiosity.  He loved to learn!  He knew so much about NASA and the space program, just to mention one area, and above all, he loved the Lord and His Word.  Our sympathy to the family.
