Suzanne was born in Borger, Texas on May 15, 1942, to Geraldine Heath Sims and John Jasper Sims.
Suzanne is survived by her sons, Kyle Hawkins and wife Nancy of Frisco, Texas; Alex Hawkins and wife Sherri of Palmer Lake, Colorado; and Jonathan James and wife Jessica of Savannah, Texas. Suzanne is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Heather Hawkins, Brian Hawkins, Seamus James, and Aurora James and close family Linda Brian, Bill and Carol Brian, and Mark Lawless.
Suzanne was an elementary school teacher for many years and positively impacted the lives of numerous young students who stayed connected over the years. Her love for science, nature, art, and igniting a spark for learning made her an amazing teacher. Had she not been a teacher, she would have been a veterinarian with her caring compassion and connection with animals.
She was an avid gardener whom many would say had two green thumbs. She would comment that having your hands in the dirt was good for the soul. Suzanne also had a deep love for drawing, painting, and other arts that she happily shared with her children and grandchildren. Her love of music was deep rooted and shared by those close to her. She was an avid reader throughout her life and preferred books and one’s own imagination to the movie screen.
She had a love for Colorado’s outdoors, geology, and history and enjoyed spending time in the mountains hiking and exploring backroads and 4x4 trails. The Colorado mountains offered her crisp cool air and unmatched scenic beauty that was deeply meaningful for her.
Suzanne was a strong advocate for children, nature, and other virtuous causes. Family, friends, and faith were especially important to her and always a priority. She was always there to listen, provide perspective, share life’s lessons, and offer whatever she had. She spent her life taking care of others.
