Ak-Chin Indian Community- Anthony James Lewis, age 34, was born on July 10, 1990 at Chandler Regional Hospital at 3:43 a.m. He was the fifth child born to Leo & Patricia, and their only son. He passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025 at Chandler Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Anthony attended primary school at Maricopa Elementary School, Cornerstone Christian School and Maricopa Middle School. He attended Maricopa High School and Sherman Indian High School in Riverside, CA. The latter where he met and made lots of friends.
When he was younger, he played the flute in the Maricopa Middle School Marching Band and learned to play the keyboard. A highlight was playing in the Casa Grande Light Parade. He traveled as a child and sang with his family’s gospel group Rejoicing Comes in the Morning. He attended Maricopa First Baptist Church and was baptized there. Also, he was a part of the first children’s choir.
Anthony was very artistic. He enjoyed drawing, beading, weaving baskets, dancing, baking and listening to a variety of music. He was friendly, very considerate of other, and loved to socialize. He was a simple person, who took great pleasure in the simplest things in life. He was instrumental in caring for his nephews and nieces by waking them up for school, cooking meals, babysitting or spoiling them with treats. He enjoyed pepperoni pizza, Mrs. Klein’s hot pickles, Slim Jims, and chorizo. He was a very generous person with his money. Never asking questions or for anything in return. He’d often walk to the store for his aunts who were unable to go themselves.
Anthony’s favorite things to say were “Chumpurrdee !!!” and “dêp em nei.”
Anthony is preceded in death by his sibling Baby Joy Lewis; Grandparents Lino Valles, Sr.; Gloria Narcia; Anthony & Philippa (Pablo) Thomas; Uncles Loren Lewis; Leo Thomas; Matthew Smith, Jr.; Gregory & Gary Thomas; Aunts Dorothy Lewis; Jacquelyn G. Lewis; Anna & Darlene Thomas, Joyce Smith, infant nephew Trenton Blaise Antone and Best Friend Alma Harris (Ortega).
Anthony is survived by his parents Leo J. Lewis, Jr.; Patricia Thomas; Grandmother Elizabeth Valles (Narcia); Aunts Adeline Thomas; Imogene Thomas. Siblings Maxine M. Antone; Nicole Allison; Leenette Lewis; Amanda Green; Charity Lewis; Madeline Lewis; Collette Susunkewa & Eileen Pinheiro; 9 nephews, 8 nieces; 3 great-nephews; Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Grandparents, and Friends.
Wake service will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025 beginning at 1 p.m. at Patricia Thomas’ residence (46299 West Farrell Road). Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 10, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Casa Blanca Assembly of God (1039 Orchard Road, Bapchule, AZ 85121). Burial at Ak-Chin Indian Community Cemetery
