Josephine grew up in Ajo, where she developed a passion for dancing to Chicken Scratch music. She found joy in reading and engaging in word search puzzles. Known for her loving, kind, and caring nature, Josephine touched the lives of many.
She was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Papago Agency for 35 years until her retirement.
Her educational journey took her to schools in Banning, CA, St. Johns, and Haskell Indian Nations University, where she made lasting memories and friendships.
Josephine is survived by her daughter, Jacque Martinez, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: Lucy Bennett, Elizabeth Siow, and John Ignacio, as well as her granddaughter, Noleen Jose.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Sells, Arizona, on the Tohono O'odham Nation. The Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at Sells Catholic Cemetery at 4:00 p.m.
