Born in Willcox, AZ, he was raised in a large family that his father, William, called Coxon's Army. He graduated from Casa Grande Union High School in '44. He joined the Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII. After the war he was a firefighter at Williams Air Force Base. He was Casa Grande's first full-time mail carrier. He was active in many organizations.
