Q: How did you meet Richard?
            
            A: I met Rick when i was 16 and they were living on a ranch in black canyon , i was visiting my friend Leslie at the time and they ram the ranch. he asked me to be his girlfriend and i said yes but in lived in california so we would write and record messages on cassette tapes. Next summer i came back and we had the most wonderful time together and i made him a man that summer. We were very much in love. I had to go back home again so we stayed in touch and i couldnt get back for 2 yrs and by then we were older and i was a party girl and he was a cowboy and i guess we changed. When i left i didnt hear from him for 6 months and it became clear it wasnt going to work out. I so regretted not fighting harder for us as he was a good man and i guess we should have discussed our lives and ambitions more. A part of my heart will always love him. I lost track of him for many many years until i visited friends in wilcox and she was able to track him down and we had such a wonderful talk. I was married with kids by then. We met up for lunch and he met my kids and was so kind to us. We would talk about what ifs but im happy he got to have an amazing life and raise a family which he so adored and loved. I messaged him last fall about how he was doing and i knew he had been battling cancer but was doing better. I wish i had called sooner just to hear his voice one more time. I didnt know he had taken a turn for the worse. I still have a western belt he hand tooled for me and wonderful pictures of him and us. Im so sorry to his family for your tremendous loss of such a wonderful man. You were all so blessed to be in his life. I just was looking up his name today because his phone number disappeared from my phone, now i know why. If you would like to reach out i would love to hear from his family. Rick is a shining Angel watching over all if you.  Rick i will miss talking to you even if sporadically and i remember the last thing you said to me and i wish it was true. You will always be my first love and i will always hold that dear to my heart.   

I had the honor and privilage to work with Rick for many years, his work ethics and hard work was admirable. His sense of humor and devotion to his family made me always remember him. He told me many stories from his chilhood and service time, always looking forward to hear another Rick's story. I lost track of his last few years and I will regret it for the rest of my life.

Rick was an amazing man who had the ability to remain calm and quiet among the chaos. When he welcomed you into his home,  he welcomed you into his amazing family. He was always kind to me and my children, and always willing to help in any way needed. He will be missed by so many, and I have no doubt that his wonderful family will live each day knowing just how lucky they were to have had this man as a father, a p-pa, and a friend. ❤️

My favorite memory with my p-pa is building our play house in my back yard all day. And he kept forgetting items from the harbor store and would always get me and my brothers a drink from sonic and always say don’t tell your mother as me and my brothers were all amped up on about three and at the end he carved our names in the play house. That memory of my grandpa will always have place in my heart.

I love you so much and I'm going to miss you like crazy. You have taught me so much, working on the casita and putting our hands in the wet concrete when the job was done. You mean everything to all of us, you will forever be in my heart. I wish I can talk to you some more. Be able to hear your voice. But you will always be watching over us, you are my angel. I immediately knew when I proposed to Shannon that I wanted my tio to marry us. On December 12th 2022, tio Rick made this day even more special to me.

I have met only a very limited few number of men in this world that I deeply, genuinely admire.  Rick, you were one of those few.  You were stoic, selfless and unassuming, always willing to give of yourself for others.  From the first day I met you, you made me feel welcome in your home and life, and when called upon did not hesitate to go out of your way to be the first to welcome me into your wonderful family.  The lasting impression of love you have left on all of our lives is unmistakable, and is the most important legacy any of us can hope to leave. Many say a father is someone who is there for you no matter what. He loves you unconditionally no matter your mistakes. He always greets you with arms wide open and always knows what to say. Tio was that and so much more. He never failed to remind us how much he loved us or how proud he was of the person I have become. He was always there for you when you needed him most. He would never fail to drop everything in a drop of hat to listen, to give advice and comfort you when you needed it most. Tío, I will never forget all our long weekends of just sitting at the house, having our morning coffee and our long conversation on the front porch. I will always have those conversations, advice, jokes and stories. You have always been that father to me, you have seen me grow, you have seen me at my worst and my best. You have been present in every milestone of my life from childhood, to 8th grade Promotion, High School Graduation, wedding, Father Daughter dance and motherhood. I can’t imagine life accomplishment without you. It won’t be the same… although I know you will always be present in spirit and shinning down on us with joy. I still remember when Matt and I asked if you would do us the honor to officiate our wedding. You didn’t hesitate and immediately said yes. I still remember our chat on the phone when you shared with joy in your voice that you were officially ordained to officiate our wedding. Matt and I are blessed and honored to have had you be a big part of the biggest day of our lives. We were and still are filled with joy knowing that you performed our ceremony and that we were the first to start your journey as the “Marrying Minister”. I promise to continue making you proud every day of my life. I promise you to be the best wife to Matt and mother to Eva. I promise you to always be there for our family especially Tia, the kids ( our cousins) and all the grandkids. They were everything to you and I know you will continue guiding them and all of us from up above. Our heart goes out to each of you and pray you find healing, comfort and peace during this difficult time. We love you all so so very much!

I always enjoyed the conversations that I had with Rick. He was a knowledgeable and kind human with a clear perspective. He'd share stories with me of his childhood and tips for living in the desert. During Sunday breakfasts and holidays he'd admonish us younger folks, who enjoy shooting, that he'd shot a gun once. I always got a kick out of it when he'd say that. It never got old. Rick liked being a dad and he loved being a grandfather, which was always evident and a pleasure to observe. He'd tell me that when the yellow flowers fell from the trees that it was called Arizona snow. I am grateful for my time spent with Rick. God bless.

Rick was a warm and quiet presence.  One of the first times I was invited out to the ranch for brunch, I remember Rick sitting in his favorite seat watching TV, and smiling at the whirl of grandchildren and conversations around him.  His calm sometimes astounded me, and was always a welcome presence to those around him.

Rick was always there to lend a hand, lend an ear, or lend some advice. I will miss listening to him and watching him with his grandchildren.

Dear P-Pa,

We’ll miss those listening ears and the mouth that spoke the right words. Your beautiful smile when you walked in a room we can see those pure whites. ❤️ 
It won’t be the same without you at family events, Sunday breakfast or teaching the kids how to ride bikes and ride around the house with them.

Rick was an amazingly selfless man. He went out of his way to help those who needed it. He took in myself and my infant son when I did not even have a job. He let us stay with him until I was able to get a job and get on my feet. He’d do anything for his family…no matter how you wound up as ‘family’, Rick treated you like you’d been there your whole life. He frequently let people borrow a vehicle when they were high and dry without any questions asked. Family was Rick’s priority and it showed in the smiles of his every growing family, every day. 

Q: How did you meet Richard?
            
            A: Rick and I worked together for many years side by side.  When my managers Tom Johnson and Lynn Mattson started General Engineering support, LLC, we ran it out of my house in Avondale, az.  

Our families mingled throughout the years.  He was not only a work associate but a good friend.  He would give the shirt off his back for anyone.  I loved hearing all the stories about Tom, Lynn and Rick in the army. Rick was always making us laugh, joking about everything.  He was maticulous, everything in his office was aligned perfectly.  So I would love moving things out of their perfect place just to mess with him.  

I thought of Rick often before he passed on, and I look forward to knowing him for eternity. 

An uncle is a person who will never fail to make you smile. A person who will tell the best stories and crack the best jokes. The advice giver, the protector, the helper. Tio was all of that and so much more. He gave the warmest hugs and hugged you so tight you felt the love. He believed in you even when you didn’t believe in yourself. He loved unconditionally and never judged. My favorite memory will always be seeing his face and the smile he gave as you walked into the house. He always greeted you with so much love and you felt right at home. My heart goes out to each and every one of you. I pray that you find healing and that you are surrounded with nothing but love and comfort. Camila and I love you all to the moon and back ♥️

Some of my fondest memories with you will always be learning how to two-step with you to Eddie Rabbit's "I Love a Rainy Night" and Dan Seals' "I Wanna Bop With You Baby", you teaching me how to ride a bike, and of course building my hope chest and entertainment center together. 

You taught me many life skills that I will forever be grateful for. You married mom and meant forever and forever is what you gave all of us. Unconditional love for all five of your children was given by your whole heart. 
Your love was only amplified when you became a grandpa. As a p-pa you made so much of a difference as a role model for your grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

I will always carry my pride for your military service, ability to craft with your hands until your job was something to have pride in, your ability to love unconditionally, and so many other reasons to miss you here on Earth. 
I am so happy you are without pain and will miss you so much my handsome dad.
