George Wallace Konig

1947 - 2025

Husband, Father, Friend, Teacher

George spent his childhood in East Baltimore, born into a family with deep roots, inspiring a

lifelong interest in history and politics. He grew up with a fervent love of music, movies, and television

that he would later pass on to his own children.

At the age of nineteen, he was drafted into the army during the height of the Vietnam War,

a three-year experience that ultimately led him to discover his passion for teaching. He majored in

History and Secondary Education at Towson State University, where he also got to express his affinity for

singing by participating in Madrigals.

In 1974, he began a thirty-eight-year career as a Social Studies teacher for Montgomery County

Public Schools. Predominantly focusing on American History, his passion never faded throughout five

decades of teaching middle school students, and he would often engage the kids by incorporating pop

culture into his lessons.

He took great pleasure in traveling, particularly to places with warm, sunny weather, and among

his many hobbies, his favorite was perhaps cultivating his backyard vegetable garden. A lifelong doglover, he spent the last thirty-plus years enjoying the company of several cherished poodles.

He was predeceased by his father George, mother Gladys, and sister Marian. He is survived by

his wife of thirty-five years, Jill, and his sons Sean (fiancée Hayley Kang) and Ryan (wife Hannah

Hildebrandt), as well as many long-standing friends.

A funeral service will occur Monday, June 2, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM, 1630 Edmondson Ave, Catonsville, MD 21228. A committal service will occur Monday, June 2, 2025 from 1:45 PM to 2:00 PM at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Rd, Owings Mills, MD 21117.
