Kenneth Anthony Songy, 92, passed away on September 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He will be remembered by his many friends and extended family for his integrity, loyalty, humility, and kindness.
Born to the late Antoine and Pennie Songy in Reserve, Louisiana on December 6, 1933, Ken served in the US Army in Germany before going to college on the G.I. Bill. He met and married Sharon (Shari) Zinser of Monroe, Wisconsin while attending Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now ULL) in Lafayette, Louisiana and graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1961. They moved to Maryland where Ken worked at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (then NPP), Indian Head, MD until retirement in 1993, after more than 32 years of Civil Service. He was active in Boy Scouting and enjoyed sailing and woodworking - passions he shared with his children and grandchildren. Ken was preceded in death by Shari, his beloved wife of 59 years; and brothers Gerald (Rose) and Lawrence (Evelyn). He is survived by three children, Kathy Tomaszewski (Steve), Kenneth, Jr. (Brenda), and Stephen (Georgeann); ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Richard (Gena); a sister, Dorothy Miano (Samuel); and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel on the Charlestown Senior Living campus, Catonsville, MD, with visitation there at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD at 2:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
