Rudolf B. Lamy of Catonsville, Maryland passed away at age 70 on January 29th, 2024. He was the beloved son of the late Dr. Peter and Mrs. Angela Lamy. He is survived by his loving wife of over 32 years, Antoinette (Toni) Ahrens, his stepdaughter Gail Ahrens (George Beer), grandchildren Andrew Beer, Eden Roberts (Timothy) and their children Elizabeth and Timothy.
Rudi is also survived by his siblings Carl H. Lamy and Margaret Lamy Lachowicz (James). Rudi was a dedicated and kind uncle to his niece, Paula Lachowicz Campbell (Colin), their daughter Clara and his nephew Anton Lachowicz (Wendy).
A devoted and loving partner to his wife, Rudi eventually became Toni’s in-home caregiver. He worked tirelessly to make sure she had excellent medical and emotional care. Rudi was always interested in the lives of the new generations of his family, keeping up on their latest achievements and adventures and displaying multiple photographs of all the children throughout his home. For many years Rudi and Toni threw an annual Fourth of July party at their home which fed and entertained family, friends, and neighbors. It left us all with wonderful memories of togetherness, great bar-b-que, and outstanding fireworks. It was truly the highlight of the summer.
A long time Catonsville resident, Rudi graduated from Catonsville High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland Baltimore County. He also received Master’s degrees from Johns Hopkins University and University of Maryland in Administrative Science and Library Science, respectively.
After retiring from the Maryland State Law Library in 2011, Rudi did not stay idle and wrote extensively in his blog about dementia patient home care and consulted with the Peter Lamy Center on Drug Therapy and Aging at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
Rudi will be deeply missed by his family, his coworkers, his neighbors, and his friends.
Family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30AM, Saturday, February 24 at the Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc., 1630 Edmondson Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228. A memorial service will follow at 11:30AM. Interment in Meadowridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Gift Processing Administrator, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172 or The Maryland Food Bank, 2200 Halethorpe Farms Rd, Baltimore, MD 21227 or a pet charity of your choice.
