I have two Stan stories to share.  First, it was Bob and I’s first trip to Pocono, 2006 I believe, and we were given Turn 1 with co-captains Stan and James Noel.  Wow, what a corner.  For a few seconds, as the drivers make that right hand turn, they are pointed right at you.  A Formula V car came in too hot, swerved badly then ended up rolling, stopping wheels up just beyond the first turn, close to the where the tow vehicles wait.  Race stopped and tow truck came down and tried to turn the car and driver right side up.  Stan immediately stopped him and said he wanted medics to look at him and his neck braced before turning everything right side up.  It was done slowly and gently, with a couple of people holding the driver’s head.  Wow…. A lesson I will never forget.

The second incident, Summit Point had moved the tub/station for Turn 10 down to the far end of the bank and it was decreed we would have to flag from there.  Stan was NOT happy.  I was working radio and watching mainly down stream.  Stan was blue flagging.  As needed, Stan would do a quick, low flash of the flag, and the car that was passing, ducked back behind the car in front.  This happened many times and Stan would hmpf a bit and nod his head.  It wasn’t until the end of the race that Stan noticed he had accidentally grabbed the yellow flag and had been flashing that!  We laughed and laughed, including Stan who said that at least he found out they could see the flag!

Two lessons learned - always take care of the driver first and better to be safe than sorry - get the medics there.  And be self-deprecating..  we’re all human and we’re going to make mistakes!

Stan - Bob and I sincerely miss your wisdom and many stories.  I couldn’t have asked for a better Captain to train me.  Our sincerest condolences  to his friends and family.

Stan and his wife Shirley, who was my cousin, were probably two of the most interesting people I've ever met.  They had so many friends and hobbies and always fascinated me with their road rally stories. My sincere condolences to David. They loved you so much. Rest in peace Stan. My condolences to David, family, and friends. This is a pretty poor picture of Stan from the 2002 SCCA Convention in Atlanta. He always had great stories about racing, rallying and his & Shirley's adventures. Great memories.

He will be missed, but he and Shirly are back together again.

So sorry to learn of Stan's passing. Spent many a weekend at SCCA  events, working, and socializing with Stan and Shirley. So many memories. So many great stories!

My condolences to you David. I knew your Mom and Dad for over 30 years. They were racetrack family and I spent many happy hours with them, listening to your Dad's stories around the campfire. Stan was a wise and knowledgeable man, who was always willing to share his talents with anyone who needed them. He will be greatly missed. He is with your Mom now, both of them together again, watching you with love and pride.

Stan was a kind, ready to work man wit wonderful stories.  I knew Stan and Shirley through SCCA.  As relatively new members, they opened their home to us and invited us to spend the night so we didn't have to drive home.

Stan's smiling face every Sunday as he greeted us going into church will be missed! Always willing to help were he could, known as Stan the Van Man when it came to delivering hundreds of shoe boxes in his van for Operation Christmas Child. Rest in peace Stan
