Edison Church made the angels sing June 23, 2014 as he entered heavens gates. Edison was born in Pound, Virginia, March 17, 1931 to Tennessee and Ethel Church. He grew up in Neon, Kentucky where he began working at a very young age in the coal mines to help provide for his mother, five sisters and one brother after the death of his father. Ed cherished his days in the hills of Kentucky and West Virginia where he learned to trap, hunt, and peel bark; and spent many days treeing coons with his dog. Ed came out west in the 50’s to escape the mines after suffering severe lung damage, never forgetting his roots or where he came from, to find work in logging and cutting wood for Weyerhaeuser.
Ed cherished holidays with his family. He loved sharing stories with his grandkids and teaching “the old and right ways of doing things”. Ed will be missed for his devotion, dedication and love of family, his special and unique presence he brought when he entered a room and his, perfected and loved by all, southern fried chicken. Ed spent many years traveling with his gospel tent, holding tent revivals, always looking to spread the gospel and see people brought to Christ. He was a long time member of Pathway Church of God.
In 1952, Ed married Louise Dunn. They had three children Dinah, Brenda Kay, and Darrel. In 1972, he married his best friend and life companion, Connie Stading, who loved and took care of him till the very end. Connie and Ed had five children Zelma, Angie, Eddie, Jared & J.J.
Ed was proceeded in death by his dad Tennessee, his mom Ethel, step dad Wilson Riley Sergent, siblings Maudie Mullins, Ada Short, Delbert Church, Esther Nichols, Zelma Meade, and Naomi Johnson. Ed is survived by his wife Connie and 8 children; Dinah Faulkner, Brenda Kay Stutz, Darrel (Sherri) Church, Zelma Hammer, Angie (Jeff) Ingle, Eddie (Jamie) Church, Jared Church, and JJ Church. Grandchildren include Andy and Julia Faulkner, Greg and Derrick Stutz, Sara, Kelly, Jodi and Krista Church, DJ and Salesha Hammer, Isaac, Abel and Asa Ingle, Josh and Aaron Church; 9 great grandkids; also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who are all going to feel his loss deeply.
A special thank you from the family to Dr. Cook for his wonderful care and to Dr Chung (PCLI) for his sincere care and dedication to our husband and father.
A graveside memorial will be held 9 am Friday, June 27, 2014, at Fern Hill Cemetery located in Menlo, WA.
