Edith May Duncan
February 8, 1932 – January 2, 2020
Edith May (Rayton) Duncan, 87, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, with her family by her side. She was born to Norman and Hannah Rayton in Centralia, Wash.
Edith grew up in the Adna area and married her high school sweetheart, Ron. They were married 60 years. There were many accomplishments along the way that she was proud of, such as being the Cherry Pie Champ of 1946, county and statewide. She was also chosen to attend the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago as a result of her achievements in 4-H activities and was 4-H leader for 10 years. Edith was also Miss Lewis County candidate from the Adna area in 1948, second place and was salutatorian for her senior class. She earned homemade bread awards at the fair. In later years, she would make many dozens of rolls and cinnamon rolls for various occasions. Edith worked at the Lewis County Auditors Office and then the ASCS office for 25 years, was a member of Daughters of the Pioneers and an active member of the Helping Hands Club, Beacon Society and Garden Club. Edith was a talented seamstress who spent many hours creating prom dresses, cheer leading outfits and wedding dresses. She was also a member of the Boistfort Community Church for 37 years and was their organist.
Edith was also well known for the sloppy joes she made each Christmas for the church carolers. She was a member of the Adna Grange and helped with exhibits at the Southwest Washington Fair for many year. Edith and her husband, Ron were both members of the Boistfort Lions Club for more than 50 years. She was the diving force behind the Lions/White Canes smorgasbord that took place in the valley for many years.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; and her loving husband, Ron.
She is survived by her brother, Virgil Rayton; children, Bob (Teresa) Duncan, Linda (Mark) Duncan-Casaw and Tami (Tammie) Duncan; grandchildren, Jon Kari, Tyler, Cody and Ian; and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at the Baw Faw Grange Hall. A catered meal will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Adna Scholarship Foundation-Rayton Fund in her name, P.O. Box 118, Adna, WA 98522.
