Ed Stanton of Chehalis passed away peacefully August 16th at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. He was 84. So many lives were touched by Ed's infectious laugh, faith-filled optimism and genuine love for everyone he met. He often said "no one is more blessed than Ed Stanton," but friends and family know we were blessed by knowing him.
He was born on July 3, 1941 in Oil City, PA to Edward and Monica Stanton. Ed talked fondly of his childhood in Youngstown, Ohio, Ursuline High, YSU, and Theta XI Fraternity. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Darleen.
Ed was a leading wood products executive for more than 60 years, retiring in 2021 at 80 years old. He worked at Casey Lumber, U.S. Plywood, Shakertown, Pasquier Panel Products and KML Corporation. Ed’s work ethic and industry connections were so valuable that a year after retiring, he was asked to return to work part-time. Being 81, he decided to stay retired.
Ed was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. He served on St. Joseph’s Parish Council, Finance Committee, as a Eucharistic Minister and the Knights of Columbus. He also served 40 years on the Chehalis Civil Service Commission. He was proud of his 30-year football refereeing career. He officiated 15 state football games at the Tacoma Dome and Kingdome.
Ed often said "keep the faith, better days are ahead" and "thanks be to God." Faith called him to serve many years at the community breakfast ministry at Urban Grace Church in Tacoma and preparing sandwiches for St. Timothy’s homeless outreach.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Darleen, and their children: Joe (Lisa), Patrick (Jodi), Heather (Tim) and Tom (Carrina). Ed loved spending time with his grandchildren Calvin, Jack, Julia, Ruby, Sophie and Oliver.
A funeral vigil will be 7 p.m. Aug. 28and a memorial mass 11 a.m. August 29th at St. Joseph’s in Chehalis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Timothy Episcopal Mobile Ministry or Urban Grace Church.
