Eleanor Marie Coons Crawford

Eleanor (Phyllis) Marie Coons Crawford AKA Dillie was born August 22, 1929 in Mackenzie, ND. She had one older sister and five brothers, raised by a single mother who worked hard and did a fantastic job of raising her family. They eventually moved to Skagit County and ran a small gas station/soda fountain in Edison. Mom loved working there after school serving sodas to all her friends.

Mom met her husband, Cordie Crawford, while both working at the same bank while living in Seattle Washington. They raised three daughters, Tanya, Hollie and Kippi. Tanya was physically and mentally challenged and mom took care of her every need without denying her other two daughters everything they could desire, dance, drill team, piano. Every Christmas season she would make a huge batch of different cookies so dad could bring to work with him.

After dad had his first heart attack at 43, she went back to work part time, while still taking care of her family. Dad had his second heart attack and passed at age 63 in 1989. Tanya passed at age 53 in 2008.

She worked at the Owl’s Nest Western Store, The Filet Restaurant at the Newaukum Valley Golf Course, and at Kit Carson restaurant. She was assistant Activities Director at Sharon Care Center and worked at Under Armor, while in her 80’s.

Mom’s life was not an easy one, but she was the strongest person I know, never complaining about her circumstances. Dad’s occupation (Assistant Bank President for Seattle 1st/Bank of America) presented promotions about every 5 years which required a huge move. Mom always made all of our homes happy and welcoming. We lived in Seattle (Shoreline), Snohomish (Cathcart), Puyallup (Sumner), Chehalis and Centralia.

She was a member of the First Church of God and Chehalis Presbyterian. Her faith was strong even when she couldn’t attend services.

Around 2023 mom started showing signs of dementia and eventually went to live at Alpine Community Care Center in 2024. She lived there until her passing on September 6, 2026. For those of you who have experienced someone you know and love with dementia, the road is a rough one. Make your memories when you can as they will help you travel that road.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers and 1 sister, and one stepdaughter Faye of Kentucky and her family . She is survived by daughters Hollie (John) Farr, Kippi (Dana) Phelps; grandchildren Ashley Crawford-Farr (partner Anthony Fantozzi) and Zach Gallagher (Trish), great grandchildren Isiah Gallagher, Rylee and Travis Fantozzi. A private graveside service will be held in Bow Washington where she will join her husband, daughter and mother along with other extended family members.

Our gratitude goes out to the caring staff at Alpine, social workers and Hospice staff who kept mom comfortable, watched over her and kept the paperwork flowing.
