George Herbert Belcher
April 2, 1953 – January 1, 2019
George Herbert Belcher: loving son, brother, uncle and friend, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 1, 2019. Born April 2, 1953 in Maitland, West Virginia, he was the 6th of 7 children blessed to Toby and Dorothy (Blevins) Belcher. The family resided during his early years in West Virginia, at the family homestead on Belcher Mountain. In 1959 at the age of 6, the family relocated to Riffe, Washington, in search of a more promising future. George attended the Mossyrock School District for all of his education and graduated in 1971. Soon after, he became employed by the Centralia Steam Plant where he remained until his retirement. He lived the majority of his adult life in the Centralia and Chehalis areas, but when retired he moved back to Mossyrock to be closer to his family and the community members he was connected with. His large home on top of Salmon Creek, was not just for him, but a safe haven for so many that he loved and cared for throughout his later years. Family was everything to George. While he had no children of his own, his nieces and nephews were his world. The experiences and memories he created with and for them will never be forgotten. Countless trips where kids were piled into his car, would give them all memories that will last forever. Hosting family potlucks and BBQ’s was vitally important to him, as he was insistent that family always stay connected, and to George, you didn’t have to be blood to be family. His home and his heart were open to everyone. For the entirety of his life, George’s heart was drawn to help those who were less fortunate or without. No matter the need, whether it was a place to stay, transportation, food, or providing financial assistance, what George had - was given. He gave back to the community in more ways than can be counted. He gave of his time and energy to countless charities and organizations and for years the annual Easter egg hunt was a spot of pride for him; as well as helping with raffles for the Look a Rama Scholarship Fund and creating shoe box packages to send to children in need. He annually provided Christmas stockings running over with goodies for senior care retirement centers. Besides all his charity work, he was a very active and vibrant member of the local TOPS group where he made life long wonderful friends. George was not only blessed to have a large family who loved him, but had his best friend, Jim Lambert, by his side throughout all of his life experiences and who provided such loving and compassionate care for him in these last months that have been so difficult for him. George is preceded in death by his parents, Toby and Dorothy Belcher (Mossyrock), two sisters: Joyce Blakley (Mossyrock), and Carol Rose (Mossyrock) and a brother: Robert Belcher of (Centralia). He is survived by 3 brothers: Toby Belcher Sr. (Mossyrock), James Belcher (Arkansas), and William Belcher (Mossyrock), as well as his best friend: Jim Lambert, (Centralia), and many generations of nieces and nephews that loved him without end.
