Winifred graduated from Hills High School, and on December 11, 1940, married Bert Boeve. She and Bert started farming near Steen soon afterwards. In March of 1949, the couple moved to their own farm in Luverne, Minnesota, where they raised their three children.
Winifred was greatly supportive of her children, especially during their time at Beaver Creek High School, and when grandchildren came, they were welcomed with open arms. Winifred enjoyed quilting and crocheting, and every member of her family was blessed with one of her treasures. Her grandchildren enjoyed many wonderful weeks at the farm in Rock County. Winifred raised chickens for many years, and summers were a time for the family to get together to help butcher those chickens! She and Bert moved later to a farm near Garretson, South Dakota, where Winifred worked as a Dietician and Cook at a local nursing home. Winifred and Bert’s love of farming, and their love for family and friends was a joy to all who knew them.
Winifred was a faithful founding member of the Reformed Church in Luverne. She taught Sunday School, led Bible Study, and was active in all aspects of church social life. In the years following retirement, Bert and Winifred did a lot of traveling in their RV. While living in Tucson, Arizona, Winifred worked as a cook in a café, and when they moved to Centralia, Washington, the couple managed a trailer court for several years. After Bert passed away, Winifred moved in with her daughter, Celia, in California. Celia moved to Arkansas with her mother a few years later, until it was Winifred’s time to go with the Lord.
Winifred was preceded in death by her parents, Cena and John; husband, Bert; siblings, Charles, Bert, Johanna Vickland, Herman, Nick, Hank, Tina Sasker, Cynthia Bonema, Minnie Ross, and Andrew; and one great grandson, Joshua.
